Had a Hornet X, same year with 258/6. Wish I had kept it, would have made a great hotrod. Nice to see one kept up.

Wow! I'm a longtime AMC enthusiast myself. I was in college in 1977; Sept. 21 was a Wednesday.

Wow . . . what a beautiful car. Ever since I saw James Bond (Roger Moore) drive one through the plate glass window off the showroom floor with Sheriff JW Pepper in tow, I've loved the AMC Hornet, and that barrel roll was THE coolest thing ever seen on film, and that was long before CGI technology was available, so the famous barrel roll was the real deal. Don't see many V8 Hornet's anymore. What a find :)

Like that you said right at the beginning you already bought it and this is how you found it then did a reenactment. Too many video's and TV show's where people stage it as the real moment. Great car, great find, love that orange color.

That's a nice Firecracker Red AMX! I had two Sunshine Yellow AMX's both 6 cylinders with automatics. They only made one AMX model in '77 unless you're referring to the 100 White Levi Edition. I always wanted to build the car that AMC could've built using a correct 360 4bbl. but both of mine were bought cheap, but decent, but still fell apart too soon with no money to restore them. A great high school car was my first one, it had the trans. rebuilt with a shift kit in it before I got it. That car wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear unless you let up on the gas (around 80-85 mph) screaming and pulling away from who ever I raced. A guy in a brand new '83 Trans Am with it's HO 305 in it wanted to race one night, I kept smiling at his cute girlfriend while he was trying to act cool. With my left foot on the brake, and bringing up the rpm's a little, the light turned green, I had him off the line, across the intersection, and with the engine screaming in second gear, I beat him by three car lengths. He couldn't believe he lost, asked me what I had under the hood, I said "Just the stock 6 cylinder", he thought I was messing with him, so he wanted to race again. I beat him again, by three car lengths again. Third try, same results, so he said pull over in that gas station. When I popped the hood, he saw a dirty, oily straight 6, his jaw hit the floor, upset his new T/ A just got beat by a stock Hornet AMX with a 6 cylinder, he stormed off, all while I kept checking out his cute girlfriend who kept smiling back, fun times with that car!

I just recently (back in December 2016) picked up a firecracker red 77 AMX Hornet.I had one(Red) back in 85 and basically ran the wheels off it,,,and wanted another one ever since then,,been a loooooong hunt and wait to get to this point,,but well worth it. It's just a very unique and interesting car.,,,I also lucked up and got some extra parts that came with the sell of the car and some I purchased afterwards.,,

Putting the AMX logo on a Hornet would be as shameful as putting the Corvette name on the Chevy Vega,or ford putting the Boss Mustang logos on the Pinto ,great little Hornet id love to have but its not an AMX

Too much time spent complaining about the paint defects that are invisible on camera. Who cares? We aren't buying this car.

Sorry, but I hated those Hornets with AMX badges - imposters! I owned a 70 AMX 360 4-speed w/3.73 posi and Go package. The Hornet was a good car but was no AMX, and in 77 the 304 V8 was weak.
