A spoiled city. Cardiff was not so long ago one of the best places in the UK to live but has nosedived in recent years for a myriad of reasons, like many other cities in the UK. It's tragic but sadly the truth.

I was living in cardiff as a child in 1977. I remember the orange buses and the Prince of Wales when it was a cinema. The titles of the films left little to the imagination. Those were the days when you had to put on your raincoat and hat if you wanted to watch nudity on film! Later it became a trendy nighclub, they used to pause the music halfway through the night for a lightshow, culminating in a motorbike descending from the ceiling. I always preferred the Sqaure Club, even if you had to paddle through suspect water to get to the loos.

I moved to the ☀ years ago. Fed up of the Welsh weather. This only confirms I was right . It needed a lick of paint and tlc in this video. It got it later of course and now is a brighter city. But from this video, mostly grey then it's not changed. Thanks for sharing.

Was up until about 2010-2015. I hardly recognise the place now, the locals have all left for the surrounding towns. Full of temporary students and lawless young foreigners hanging about. The surrounding council estates in Llanrumney and Ely still among the worst in Wales. Crime is rife and with it the degredation of order, culture and standards has gone with it. The city we see here is gone forever. The old buildings and main features that circle the CBD are still there but fundamentally it is a different city.

@@demonhalo67it's still a fantastic place to live, but the city centre leaves a lot to be desired now. Apart from some very good restaurants, the bars are all pretty generic and expensive. There are a lot more vagrants and coked-up louts as well, which isn't too nice

Goedemorgen,, I actually left Cardiff in 1977 to work abroad (in England!) and have very rarely gone back there as most of my family have moved away. I like to see what is happening in my old home city, so I am surprised that it has taken this long for KZbin to recommend your video. I see from a reply to another comment earlier that this was filmed in super 8, a format that I used for a while, so I assume that you dubbed in the soundtrack. If that is correct, then you have done an excellent work synchronising the sounds with the action. I enjoyed it. Bedankt

That is pretty much the only positive, Everything else has gotten worse. Getting rid of the tram system in the city centre in the 60's was a massive mistake. Takes ages walking around by foot and without the central bus station I don't know how visitors can find where they are going.

10 years before me, this video breaks my heart because I know I'm looking at a video of a better time. I moved out of Cardiff about a year ago, far too many students and gangs of young foreign men hanging around not spending money or putting anything into the local economy. The drinking scene is lawless with sick, rubbish, and glass bottles everywhere. Modern high rise tower flats have completely changed the character of the skyline and the old foundations beneath them. The loss of Cardiff central bus station was the final straw for me. I'll never come back, I don't recognise the city anymore and thousands of Cardiffians have done the same and moved out to the surrounding towns because of the general decline in standards and local culture.

Jesus get a life man. You're just spreading negativity everywhere in this comment section. I'm sorry you think the city has gone to the dogs but you need to understand your opinion is not universal. People vote with their feet and Cardiff's population continues to grow thanks to its vibrancy as a city. Cardiff is a fantastic city and continues to score highly on livability ratings when compared to other UK cities. I'm sorry you can't cope with change but the facts simply don't back up this negative view you're pandering!
