Great Video. Wished you had a picture of the truck stance after the repairs to the front and rear suspension. 😊
@tri5garage544 Жыл бұрын
The sleeves in the bushings have Teeth to lock into the hangers so you do tighten them down, the entire point of bushings in springs is to twist with the suspension. Get everything together and once the weight is on it tighten everything down, I have never heard anyone say otherwise including any service or repair manuals I used to read as a kid.
@ChristmanGarage Жыл бұрын
You are correct however I am a long time “racer” and from experience you want your suspension to move as freely as possible with no binding that is why I always leave my bushings just barely touching . I do the same on my lower A frames on our racecar but I usually do as you mentioned on street applications.👍 thanks for the comment

What was the gains on the front with the springs? Also springs did you use?
@ChristmanGarage4 ай бұрын
We used springs from O’Reillys and it wasn’t much gain maybe about 3/4”

Why didn’t you lubricate the hardware before you reinstalled them?
@ChristmanGarage Жыл бұрын
A always greese fittings but I never lubricate parts exposed to dirt because the dirt will stick and wear the part out 👍 thanks for the comment

Hey, loved the video, was wondering where you found the new front coil springs, and how you determined the right size?
@ChristmanGarage Жыл бұрын
We bought these from O’Reillys and if I remember correctly they only had a listing for two different ones and we went with the heaviest ones because of the big block

Thanks for the vídeo any idea where do I get cool springs for 1978 ford ranger two wheel drive is lower on the front and wanting to raise to level, thanks
@ChristmanGarage Жыл бұрын
We ordered these from O’Reillys they are stock height you can either get some from a place like rough country or bell tech or just put a spacer under the spring then you will need to find an alignment shop that can align these old beam units👍

Will that new 2” shackle on the rear hit the bed when you drive down the road?

It’s very close but does not hit👍

Great video. I have the same pickup and I’m wanting to lower the front and rear just a little. Do you know the part number for the front springs?
@ChristmanGarage2 жыл бұрын
The Coil springs we installed in this video are stock replacement from O'reilly's. If you noticed the rear was still a good bit higher than the front so in the past months we pulled 2 leafs out of the rear springs and it leveled it out making it look really nice! If you lower the front of these trucks much below factory it is a bugger bear to get them aligned because of the twin Ibeam king pin configuration. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment.👍

I was going to watch this vid but saw the stupid comment about Cal before it and thought naw. Drag racing was invented in Cal smart guy. As was motocross racing, skateboarding, street rods, and almost anything else you think is cool. Have you ever watched CRA sprint cars? Oh and just to show I'm not including you from the south, thank you for the state bird of most southern states - the trailer house.

Raising or Lowering the Rear End above or below the Leaf Springs don't affect the Length of the Drive Shaft ???

Excellent video thanks for sharing, did you get a chance to measure if there was any height gained from swapping out the front springs?
@ChristmanGarage2 жыл бұрын
About 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch not much at all
@Elbiggggie Жыл бұрын
What difference did the front shocks make on height I didn't see the height on just shocks
@ChristmanGarage Жыл бұрын
I didn’t put new shocks on just springs and your right shocks don’t raise or lower vehicles they just slow down suspension movement👍

Those 6th gen Ford F-series pickups are super rare nowadays.
@ChristmanGarage2 жыл бұрын

@@ChristmanGarage one of the cool things about them back in the days when they were new was they didn't have any recalls on them unlike on a lot of the vehicles today. Those 6th gen Ford F-series pickups were the first to come in super cabs which were introduced back in 1974. Rewind back to the 4th or 5th gen F-series pickups, one of those two generations was the first to come in crew cabs which were the very first pickups with bigger cabs. It was either 1965 or 1967 was when the very first bigger cabs "crew cabs" Ford produced. The 6th gen F-series like yours were produced from 1973 through 1979 & the 2nd gen Broncos were produced from 1978 through 1979.
