Tony, I love your channel. I'll be 75 in April and I grew up with Fords in the 60s and 70s. My dad was a big ford guy: '60 Galaxie (black-292 V8), 65 Fairlane (dark blue-289 V8), 68 Galaxie 500 (302 V8 Highland green!!). All these were 2 doors and rusted out fairly quickly in NE Ohio. I moved to Calif, got married in 1974 (just celebrated 50th), bought a used 78 LTD wagon (black-460 V8) with red vinyl interior for our babies. I don't think it ever got over 10mpg. I've relived my childhood through your channel. You and your family and your lovely parents have a great 2025.

Duraweave was akin to Dermabrasion! LOL.. glad the two-tone Jade leather is as in good a shape as it is… LOVE the cornering light testing… that “delay” is totally classic 70’s-80’s FoMoCo… loved seeing that as a young kid with mom and dad’s cars..and others when seeing them on the road… I think the normal Fords and Mercurys used the 32 candlepower “1156” bulb for those… I always replace them with either 50 candlepower “1295” bulbs ( used on 77-79 Mark V and Continentals )… or the 50W Halogen back up bulbs which were from DesignTech ( popular in the mid-90’s early-00’s ).
@tonyscarcare5657

Yeah, I can't stand the duraweave! It's like police car seat material. I do believe that these cornering lamps do all have the 1295 bulbs in them.

That falling right lighted vanity mirror visor (for those who may not know) has a screw that can be tightened to make it stay in place. As to the AC? I see it has been converted to R134a. It appears the digital clock is running as well. Crank windows with all the other luxury features? That was most likely a very specific special order or maybe a Monday build following a holiday weekend. ;) Perhaps the power window harness is lying in there? Windshield washer works - but those blades sound like they were new when Noah was in the ark! Flashing cornering lamp? Yeah, probably a ground issue. Great find for what you are needing - and some parts to sell!

I learned to drive when I was 16 on my dad’s new ‘76 LTD Landau. It was optioned just like this one but with cloth interior instead of leather. Glad to see you back on here, Tony. I do like this car, even though it is a bit rough. If not for the rusty vinyl roof, this car would be worth saving from what I can see. It cracks me up that you are surprised about the manual windows! LOL Obviously this car was just special ordered this way, probably by someone older who didn't trust them to be reliable. When I see cars like this, I am always reminded this was back in the days when cars could be equipped a la carte -- get just what you want, and hold the rest. Happy New Year Mr. Tony and great video. This was so fun to watch. What a great find for your projects. Those leather seats look great, they will match the station wagon and will clean up nicely! Also, great tip on cancelling the turn signal using the steering wheel to avoid breaking the plastic. I guess we never thought of that before and another great tip from you. We noticed what looks like a pre-delivery sticker on the steering wheel - which makes does make one wonder about the history of the car and the mileage. Some parts look in really good shape while others look worn. We are sure it was a good buy as you will be able to get a lot of parts to make the station wagon one of the best around. Take good care and God Bless….Roseann & Dan

Thanks, guys! That sticker on the steering wheel is something that Ford handed out as a reminder to everyone to be cautious about the cars jumping out of park. They say it was an issue, but I myself have never had that problem. I personally would have never stuck it on anything, but I've seen them stuck in multiple places. I totally forgot to mention anything about it. Good eye!

I think I know what the problem is with the cornering lights and the hazard flashers. The hazard flashers didn’t seem to stay on long enough to keep the relay tripped on that side. The turn signal on that right side flashed fast enough that it kept the relay tripped. I added a Ford cornering lamp relay system to my 84 Buick estate wagon when I added cornering lights. The original flashers were very quick in that they would come on and turn right back off. The relay seemed to think that I had turned off the turn signaland started turning off the cornering lamp and it would flash back-and-forth like that. I replaced the flasher unit with one that stayed on a little longer for each flash and the cornering lamps now stay on as they should.

Yo Tony....good to see a video! As you know I worked on the 72 LTD cornering lights quite a bit. Chris is right. Probably just a slightly weak cornering light relay that isnt getting enough juice on hazards to latch for that light. Geez Tony.... You're KILLING Me MAN! I know that car is a little crispy and that you have good places for the parts to go, but that car wants to LIVE! It actually seems like the condition is not bad at all. It makes the mileage question a little curious, I think? That thing would be a perfect winter ride just the way it is. Maybe try to knock out that trunk lid dent. The bumpers were great, and the headlight doors were still shut perfectly after sitting for two weeks! Anyway I hope that you can make it a car that someone can still enjoy after you get what you want from it. Although the fact that it's got so many options and the interior is nice is kind of what makes it cool. Thanks for the update. I hope your holidays were good and all is well!

I think it’s too nice to part out, you should restore that LTD, put some deluxe wheel covers and Landau bars on it…it would be perfect!….Im just messing with you!😂. I am obsessed with luxury cars from the 70’s into the 80’s. I too am shocked to see how often I see a luxury cars, Olds 98, Buick Electra, Marquis, etc. and it has crank windows?! I guess it was a different time. This LTD makes no sense whatsoever that it’s the Landau, pretty well optioned out, luxury interior group, cornering lamps, bumper protection, power seats, locks, etc. but yet crank windows? Nice find. Like yourself, hate letter tires on a vehicle like this; turn them around and use Blackwalls. Strange that it does not have the original wheel covers instead of the hubcaps, don't like them. I believe this was definitely garaged since new. Also, it has potential if you want to slowly get it in better condition, especially the roof. The dent in the trunk is no big deal, at least for me. And definitely a special order; all those power options, no power windows. I can see you do a service; oil and transmission change, plus carburetor adjusting. Good luck!

I always thought that the rear fender skirts (which this one didn't have) were the finishing touch for the LTD Landau. I bet the Marti Report shows this to be 1/1 with the car's omission of PW but with DUAL power seats with passenger recliner! I was positive I would spot an Illuminated Entry System on it, as well, but the quick shots of the driver's side keyhole it didn't look like it.

30:37 Something wonky is going on with the passenger side cornering lamp. It should not be flashing at all. It's flashing inversely to the signals which leads me to think there is a faulty ground somewhere.

Not a ground....see comment earlier. I spent a bunch of time on this for my 72 LTD. Its the cornering light relay getting weak and not getting enough juice on HAZARD to "latch" and keep the light on.

I so wish I could find cars like you do with no rust and in good condition in NE North Carolina. I think they all got crushed when Obama was President "Cash for clunkers". So sad! That is a good looking car! Don't see them anymore at all where I live!

They aren't where I live either, but they are all over Facebook Market Place. People are asking ridiculous prices, and they just sit and sit until someone like me convinces them that it's simply never gonna bring that price. It cost me $450.00 to have it shipped 286 miles.

This thing has 120K miles for sure, especially with the wear on the brake pedal. Nonetheless, it runs and drives nicely. Take the stuff you want out of it, and pass the rest to someone else to resurrect. I'm guessing those dog dish hub caps are not original for an LTD. Oddly equipped vehicle for sure, but it worked out great for you! All the best for a healthy 2025....

I agree about that dura weave seats suck, Chevy offered something like that also for their wagons...Kind of like sitting on burlap, looks like crap also. I suppose it is "durable" though. I'll bet that trunk got dented from the trailer hitting it. Too bad about the rusty top. Oh well, someone can do something with the car after you have taken off the stuff you want.

This car is like a Grand Marquis with a 4 inch shorter wheelbase. But I think power windows were standard on the Grand Marquis. It seems odd to have manual windows but if one was not driving through old style toll booths regularly, crank windows were usually not much of an issue. I think if it were a '75 or '76, it would have had a rear seat center armrest.
