Ford hasn't forgotten the big-car family.
For 1977, some car makers will offer you only shorter, narrower, lighter "full-sized" cars. Ford has a better idea. Ford feels people who want the traditional full-size car they're used to should have that choice. So Ford hasn't reduced the 1977 Ford LTD by a single inch.
You'll find Ford LTD's long 121" wheelbase is now about the same size as the downsized Cadillac. And longer than Olds 98 and Buick Electra.
And Ford LTD has a longer wheelbase than the new Chevrolets (both Impala and Caprice) which have now come down to the same wheelbase (116") as the midsize Chevelle.
Ride, room and trunkspace - UNCHANGED
Ford LTD has retained its traditional smooth, quiet ride for 1977. Interior spaciousness, deep well trunk, long wheelbase and 3 1/2 ton rated towing capacity (with optional heavy duty trailer towing package) are all unchanged. And you'll appreciate its generous hip and shoulder room.
Full-size Comfort and Luxury
Few car interiors are as inviting as the Ford LTD's. Open a door and you can tell immediately it's easy to get into because of the wide door openings. The inside looks roomy, and it is, because of the interior design which we call Ford's Front Room. There's plenty of room for six adults. And the hiproom and shoulder room are particularly generous - greater than our competitor's scaled down "full-size" cars. The LTD is clearly a full-size car that kept its size.

This is a very nice modestly equipped Landau. Would like to see a fully loaded example with the 460 engine, leather luxury group, sunroof and all power accessories. Don't forget the aluminum wheels.

The 1975 Ford LTD Landau was the first car I ever drove. I LOVED that car. The engine bit the dust with over 160,000 miles. I wish I could find a car like her again! White with the cranberry... just like mine. I miss that car. You're not afraid of getting into an accident with this car! She will tear up any of the newer cars. Yes, she likes her gas. About 15-16mpg city & 18-22mpg highway.

I had a '78 LTD Brougham years ago, in triple blue with the 460. It was a big comfortable car, and could pass everything but a gas station.

This generation LTD was only available as a Brougham in 75 and 76. The 77 and 78 offered LTD and LTD Landau. In 77 when Gran Torino transitioned to LTD II, there was a LTD II Brougham on a shorter wheelbase. The largest engine available on LTD II was a 400 CID 2V V8. The 460 was optional on the larger LTD.

MY grandparents brought a 1977 Landau brand new it was turd brown with brown int. There's had Auto PS/PB PW/PL wire hubcaps Tilt CC Rear defrost AM/FM 8 track Power driver's seats and passenger seat and power sunroof original sticker was 9974.25 new.

Nice video, super car. Isn't is funny how something like this has been optioned in a very specific manner? AC & CC, but no tape deck or power features. The remote mirrors left & right also tell a tale on the options boxes ticked. There was a time when you could order your car and pick out the things you wanted and things you didn't need. Now we're forced to select from one of maybe a dozen colors and then its a package or nothing.

The car I drove the summer of 1983 and my senior year of high school, but mine was red with white landau roof. It was my brother’s but he didn’t make payments so my parents took it from him. I got to drive it with no strings, just paid insurance.

They drove these LTD and Galaxie Ford cars on The TV series; " Barnaby Jones " and " Police Women " in the 1970's still showing them today on ME TV !

Yes they had a low price but also had a very good build quality for the time my Dad and Grandpa both had Ltd's and Cougars and now I have a 77 Ltd very good running and reliable vehicles. Under powered due to the smog era tho but they are easily waken up with the basic mods + they are super easy to work on.

you say that like its a purely good thing. chevrolet released the better full size car in 1977. the LTD might be a good car - but it was clearly outdated. and so were their intermediates when the ford granada came out.

My dad has a red ‘75 LTD Landau with the 460, black interior and in mint condition with 30k original miles tucked away in a barn on the other side of the country. Would be a literal barn find because it’s been sitting there for a few decades.

That AC compressor looks like a Delco compressor from GM.

It is... That's the Frigidaire compressor used from 1961-1985. GM changed the name of their auto ac division 3X. Frigidaire up until 1975... 1975-1982 Delco Air.... 1983-2009 Harrison. 2010- GM buys whoever's compressors... YES a GM A/C compressor in a Ford. That engine is a 351M the 351 Windsor would've had a Tecumseh A/C compressor.
