1977 Lotus S4 7 Prototype with 907 Engine Ep 1

This is our newest addition to the MotorHouse Collection. This first episode will introduce the car and go over my first evaluation of the work required. The intent is to do a full restoration. More episodes will follow as I continue with the restoration.
Lotus licensed production of the Series 4 Seven to a New Zealand company called Steel Brothers. From what I have read it was a marketing decision to get around the excessive tariffs on imported cars in that region. This car is the first Seven to get the Lotus 907 engine along with the Lotus 5 speed gearbox. Only five of these cars were produced with the 907 engine. As the prototype it received some modifications to fit the larger Lotus engine where previously they had a Ford based engine. This is also the only one of the 5 cars to come to the USA.
This is my hobby. I am not a professional shop. The cars are restored and maintained to my preference.

Thank you for posting these videos. Interesting stuff. You have a really nice collection there. The Seven fits in well. I'm in the UK. I have an S2 Esprit which I purchased about a year ago after it had been sitting for about 25 to 30 years, so I'm working to get it back on the road. I also have (the remains of) a Dutton Phaeton S2 which I've had from new. It's very similar to the Seven. Unfortunately, I think it's probably beyond repair in terms of time required. Looking forward to the next installment of your Seven restoration. Cheers Darren
