Lol years ago I had an old winter beater Chevy Blazer that I did somethin like that with. Poor thing had it bad. I wrote on the back in sharpie all the things it survived with check marks: -Tornado ✓ (mostly just broke two side windows when something flung through one and out the other, rigged in some plexi glass windows). -Deer ✓ (Hit on the freeway at speed, almost no damage. Just had to chuck the valence, and go straight bumper). -Fence ✓ (I accidentally sent it through a fence at one point, did basically no damage to the blazer). -Rendezvous ✓ (Was late and very tired after doing a bad brake job on my wife's buick rendezvous. I forgot to pump the brakes and reversed into it when I couldn't stop. Put a decent dent in the back quarter of both vehicles). -18 car pile up ✓ (got caught in an 18 car pile up on the freeway, someone rear ended me probably still going almost 70MPH. Completely mangled the back of it, but still ran and drove fine and the frame was fine. Fixed it with duct tape and rigged in plexi glass windows. It faired way better than I did). Thing was an absolute champ, and despite all that and being mostly made out of twisted metal, duct tape, plexiglass, and sharpie, it still ran and drove perfectly when I got rid of it. My buddy sold me a Silverado for a replacement winter beater, and I sold it back to him (bought it from em in the first place too). He did a burnout in it from the drive to the lift into his shop before cuttin' out the powertrain and scrappin' her.

Pantera parts are easily available. Panteras by Wilkinson, PIM, Hall and few others. I personally use Wilkinson as they have a great online site where you can see the parts in the original parts diagrams or just use a menu. They take PayPal. Parts usually arrive in a couple days. Now if you said it was a Lotus Esprit I would say there is a lot of NLA. As for brakes, SACC has a Wilwood big brake kit which is plug and play. Just need to delete the proportioning valve. Lemme tell ya. I have a new appreciation for what a guy does, after spending my weekend replacing brake rotors and pads on my kid's Volt. Driver rear corner didn't want to come apart - 2.5 hours. Passenger rear came right apart - but the caliper bracket had a slide pin totally rusted into it - even when I got it out, the channel was ruined. It was 7pm Saturday and had to drive 30 minutes to get a new bracket and caliper - returned the core with the busted bracket and the new caliper, since I didn't need it. End of night. This morning, driver's front took 10 minutes. Passenger front- the T-30 screw holding the rotor on stripped. Spent 45 minutes trying to drill it out before going and spending $20 on a set of easy outs. That was a 30 minute diversion. Easy out took 2 minutes, snapped off the head of the screw which is all I needed, 10 minutes later was finally done. Just brakes. Just a bit and Bolt job. Mad respect for how much Derek does - I am WHIPPED.

@Oldschool_car_nut-oo3oxАй бұрын
Yeah, I noticed that too! They're really common if I remember them because I was never really good with bearings and I haven't done parts for nearly 20 years. In my experience was it was always difficult to find application listings for this kind of rare thing but if you had the old ones that you could match up it was more likely. The people on the forum may have been trying to search for them by application only, or in my experience here in Australia in some cases parts stores are all going to computerized parts listings and the old art of physically matching parts or digging deeper into old parts catalogues is being lost because it's too much hassle and they feel like it's not worth their time (and time is money).

Hey Derick, try Tasca Lincoln Mercury in Rhode Island for Panters parts...my Dad and I were customers in the 70's and they owned 2 or more racing Panters and I wouldn't be surprised if they still own 1 or 2. Great family and I'd bet they would remember my name (even though I haven't been there in decades. I was there alot on my Dad's behalf, getting service on his company fleet of Lincolns and Grand Marquis. Good luck! Love me some Panteras, ever since their mechanic took me for a 200 mph test drive. Never been faster in my 71 years of car life.

Man. The people who took time out of their day to join in on an insane idea are the kind of people I want watching my back when I get boned and stranded. Everyone who jumped in is why Americans are awesome. I just did that with a film project that just flapped across my lap, gave time and almost a week's worth of effort and I don't need money for it. It just felt good to help a guy out and make his dreams come true.

On the rear axle issue. The problem is not that the nut comes loose on its own. The rear axels on the Pantera are designed to be a very tight press fit inside of the bearings to keep them from fretting the axel. Some Panteras received axels that were not a press fit in the bearings. Because the axels were not a press fit inside bearing the race starts fretting the axel as well as the spacer between to two bearings and although the axel nut is torqued to 400ft lbs factory specification the fretting of the spacer releases the nut torque and axel self-destructs like yours did. The 400ft lbs of torque is not easy to do unless you have a torque multiplier tool.

Curious to see that 351c torn down to find the problem. Could the cam shaft broke? I would think a worn lobe would have given you symptoms gradually, you would have noticed when you parked it. No LS1 swap, but maybe a coyote swap. A rebuilt 351c would be classic though, good little engines back in the day

my thoughts as well.. at first when hearing that starter i thought.. distribution belt snapped, thats a goner. i experienced this once with a car.. and it made exactly that noise, only faster. was fine the day before, was ready to go to work the next day, i tried to start the car, it fired and immediately shuts down. Tried it again, and the engine turned over way too easy, no compression at all. Since we had another car, i called a towtruck to bring it to the scrapyard (it was a '92 Opel Astra Station wagon , ugly car) and what was left on the pavement was the snapped belt.
