Blazers led pretty much all game and McGinnis got a really good look at it and it was crazy on the court.

I was 17 And I tried to sneak into Memorial Coliseum and try to stand but was foiled by a memorial coliseum usher/ticket taker and turned away. I gave up on seeing the game in person and walked over to the Lloyd center shopping mall and watched it on a large but grainy projection TV at Meier & Frank department store. There must’ve been 200 people gathered around it standing watching the game all the way through! When the Blazers won the title the place went berserk giddy with the fact that the Portland trailblazers were now world champions. Haven’t won another in all these years. The fix must be in folks! Now the Blazers have had good teams but some thing is always foiled them. I think we’re gonna find out pretty soon something is been going on and it’s not gonna look pretty.

@@philippesauvie639 Hey Philippe I feel the same way as a Sixers fan. All those great teams in the 80s and just 1 title and nothing since. I think the NBA is the hardest championship to win and it's obvious that the league goes out of its way to make California teams better.... Lebron and Anthony Davis to LA??? They draft terribly, but the leagues gifts them with a championship so they can higher ratings.

Ah….watching this reminds me of why I enjoyed watching the NBA so much back in the 70s. No three point line . Defense was actually played . Every two point shot actually meant something . There was always a big man near the basket to guard against lay-ups. THAT is real basketball. In contrast , today all I see is three pointers and boring layups and dunks and precious little defense . I rarely can watch an entire NBA game today without losing interest . I usually just watch the six minute game highlights the next day .

After the game, 76ers coach Gene Shue was replaced by Billy Cunningham.

Technically, yes. More accurately, he was replaced after Philly's 2-4 start to the following season... BC guided them the rest of the way to a 55 win campaign.

Musburger just writing off the Sixers with 50 seconds left. He couldn't stop talking, it was as if he wasn't watching the game.

That is because those who run on the NBA court, NFL or MLB fields are arrested, prosecuted and banned from the venue that they ran on the court or field for life.

After this video when Portland fans found out that CBS cut their celebration short in favor of the Kemper Open, they were outraged at CBS for that with a few fans nearly jumping CBS commentator Brent Musburger at the airport for that.

Not exactly a clinic by the Blazers on how to manage the end of the game. They were up, 108-101 and essentially tried to go four corners even with a shot clock. Almost cost themselves the game.

McGinnis should have put a body on Lucas, in that block out. Lucas couldn't have come over the top, without fouling. I was for Portland, with Walton and Lucas, though.

16 seconds to go. A 2-point lead in an elimination game for the NBA Finals. A jump ball coming up to decide the season for the NBA. And CBS Flashes The Kemper Open (non-major golf) is coming up. Worse, they makes Muss announce to no one who particularly cared that the Kemper Open was coming up. This was not sports broadcasting or producing at its best. Tuck that into your 'things were better when' file.

The President at CBS at the time was a huge golf fan. He wanted the game to start at 10 am local time so he could broadcast the Kemper Open. CNBS cut to golf as soon as the game was over and didn't bother to show the celebration in the locker room. It was unheard of to not show the post-game celebration.

@@michaelrose1466 It was a different league back then, the NBA hadn't yet reached the level of popularity that it eventually would by the mid-'80s & subsequently the '90s when Michael Jordan rose to superstardom. Back in these days the games not only were struggling for ratings, they also were being shown on tape-delay at the time if you can believe it. That's how rough a shape the league was in back then. Plus, the game had yet to reach such a wide global audience like it does now today.
