Great footage here! Groves & Guttridge Ltd - boat builders, East Cowes established in 1899! It was later absorbed by Fairey Marine who went into liquidation in 1975. it's now part of the Marine Division of the Babcock International Group. There were 3 'Norris Castle' ferries. ML Norris Castle 1 operated across the river medina in 1938/9. MV Norris Castle 2 operated as a car ferry until 1962. MV Norris Castle 3 was built for Red Funnel by Thornycroft at Woolston, Southampton in 1968; and was sold in 1994. It operated as a car ferry between Southampton & Cowes. "Mrs Joan Lacon named the ship, owner of the real Norris Castle at the time.[86] During the ship's service, she was converted to a Roll-on/roll-off ferry with mezzanine decks. She was 191 feet long and displaced 734 tonnes. In gale-force winds in 1981, when turning in the River Medina, she was blown on to the Cowes floating bridge, but there was no real damage done to either vessel. On the arrival of MV Red Osprey in 1994, she was sold to Jadrolinija for service in Croatia.[87] she was renamed to Lovrjenac, but was scrapped in 2008."
