Huge thanks to Rob Crimmins for posting this 16mm film on his KZbin channel 3 years ago. The film was completely red-shifted as you can see here -- • 1977 Phillies -- but after toiling with it for several hours in Da Vinci Resolve, I was able to bring it back to a much more normal look. I also denoised and sharpened it using Topaz. The film still isn't 'clean' by any means though - lots of scratches, specs, and skips that were inherent to the source. The original audio was out-of-sync which I've corrected. I also de-hissed it using Audacity. You can see before/after screenshots here as well -- imgbox.com/g/D...

John Facenda, NFL Films and baseball is the trifecta. Thanks Dave!

I absolutely love this! I never knew Stave Sabol, John Facenda and NFL Films did an MLB highlight film. Wow! Thank you, David. This is amazing!

Great upload. Me and all my friends were huge Phillies fans as we lived about an hour away on the Jersey shore. I went to a half dozen games from 76-80. I remember the Yankees beat the Dodgers in the 77 World Series that year. The next year the Phils lost again to the Dodgers in the NLCS. It wasn’t until 80 that the Phillies went all the way. The NLCS against Houston was epic. Those were amazing times. Thanks for sharing 👍

This looks Sooooo much better! MLB missed a huge opportunity to have many of the better or upcoming teams to make more teams films and then, market them properly! Many that were made were never seen outside of the home market, and mostly at business gatherings to drum up ticket sales. Of course, the MLB season is long with multiple TV partners both local and national. NFL and its NFL Films organization was an easier league to document. I think NFL Films and the NFL Music played a HUGE part into NFL Football surpassing MLB in mass popularity. MLB should have at least done NL/ALCS documentary films like they did with All Star Games and World Series.

Wow! This is such a nice surprise Dave. The Phillies teams of the mid 70’s were REAL good. Just couldn’t get past the NLCS. Team was loaded offensively. 1980 Phills won the whole thing but I always thought these teams were better.

Being a Reds fan, I didn't expect to get hooked on this. But here I am. What a blast from the past, from my personal Golden Age of baseball. It looks terrific, Dave. BTW, he wasn't one of the most prominent Phillies, but Tommy Hutton was a phenomenal hitter....as long as he was facing future Hall of Famers. A lifetime .248 hitter, against Tom Seaver, Ferguson Jenkins and Bob Gibson, Hutton hit .320 or better vs all of them. And 3 of his 22 career home runs came off of Tom Terrific. One of the more inexplicable baseball anomalies I've ever come across.

The 1977 Phillies were a great team....John Facenda narrating....However, my favorite part of this film, is to see some of the fantastic Pittsburgh Pirates uniform combinations. Weird the pivotal plays were damaged /edited out of the October 3 NLCS Game 3 the original "Black Friday".

I remember watching that Friday afternoon Game 3 live on tv in real time. I just could not believe what I was seeing. Manny Mota and Vic Davalio. I was 13 years old at the time and still see it as surreal.

Amazing footage quality. 1977's equivalent of High Definition. I may be wrong, but I think its some kind of super slo-mo 16mm film.
