I had a brand new 1976 Spitfire. It drove beautiful for a month and then it had a crack exhaust header. The dealership replaced it, but a couple weeks later the same thing a crack exhaust header.

I had a 1976. Fun car, but oh the electrical issues.

The tachometers on these always take a sec to come alive, but they always eventually get going, and a quick tap persuades them a bit more. Nothing wrong with the one in this example :) Great to see a US market Spitfire with the electric overdrive! Here the OD is in the majority of spitfires but from what I've seen of videos of ones over in the US, I seldom see it fitted. I think it's a shame, the electric overdrive really makes these a lot of fun to drive, since you can change gear while on throttle without needing to push the clutch in - excellent for spirited driving ;) And of course, the main benefit of overdrive being that you can comfortably take this on the highway and keep up with modern traffic with no problem, with good economy and without overworking the engine. Perfect for use in America. I've had a couple Spitfires and this one certainly looks and sounds in great shape, if you're in the US looking for a Spitfire, this is probably the one to get!

My tach also doesn’t work without a tap. How can I fix that?

I had a Mk3 in the UK, the older, nicer rounded shape. It had twin SUs so was more spirited. Loved it, they're not really fast but feel fast as you are very much in contact with the ground. You have to be careful with the early Spits like I had, as they had an earlier rear suspension set up that could tuck in on a corner. If you knew what you were doing you could avoid it.

A rich girl at Palos Verdes HS (So. Cal) got a white one for her 16th birthday in 1977. The guys were jealous! She took me for a ride. She has 6 Emmys!

My first car was a 72. Lots of fun to drive but a bit under powered. Would be nice with the 6 from a GT +
