Bought an engine for my ‘74 years ago from a guy who had put a small v8 in his spit. He had redone the frame, suspension, hood ,fenders and much more! It looked more like an A/C cobra when done and went like one too! I remember the drive shaft was only about 8 inches long. His favorite pastime was racing muscle cars. Time, money and ingenuity can do anything.

My '74 Spitfire had a 240Z engine and 5 speed shoehorned in. The heat from the exhaust was melting my shoes so I had to put a lot of padding to offset it. At least I didn't have to worry about being cold in the Winter.

Had a 67 Spitfire many years ago. It was my first project car. Overhauled the original 1147cc engine and rebuilt the SU carbs. It ran pretty good. Sadly, I never got to legally drive it on the road.

You'll need to put some GT6 brakes on with that extra power and redo the rear suspension to avoid tuck in.

Lots of variables, but it can be fairly spendy unless you can do some of the work yourself. You'll need to make some custom brackets and mounts along with some sheet metal trimming.

Having owned a Spitfire Mk4 in the 70's I found this really interesting. Quite a few old Triumph engines are beginning to wear beyond repair, or have been bored out to the limit so something has to go in there. So thanks for a great video. By the way what size was the engine you fitted.😊

fun stuff. I had a 1976. TR 6 - in the bad initial years of pollution control so it had little power and as much reliability... English engineering , from like 1938 what I wanted to do but never had a smidge of the resources - Toyota truck engine & trans.... the 150 + HP of the fuel injected TR 6 plus light years better Toyota drivability / reliability. Ya sometimes see American V 8's in Tr 6 , even Spits - with the amateur hour suspension, not up to standards brake etc , oh my. way back , in college I was driving my. 61. MGa. down the interstate , 60 mph in the slow lane. the steering wheel came off in my hinds. yes. pure luck I went off into a field rather than bridge support. got home, took like 15 min to drill a hole for a cotter pin. English engineering , amateurs.
