I had that exact same model / colour XT500 D as my first road registered bike back in 1977. I loved that bike and wish I still had it.

I brought the same model XT500D brand new in 1977. I was a first year apprentice Plumber back then and rode the XT everywhere and in all weather conditions as I didn’t own a car. Wish I still had it.

Love the look of the xt ,my first bike was the xl 250s my mate bought the xt 250 same time they where great bikes but the 500 xt was always a bike I wish I had had at sometime. But too pricey nowadays I think .👍👍

Yeah good XT500's go for crazy money but you see the odd 'project' that is reasonably priced.

Thats a beauty mate. seen the add and it looks like its worth every penny..

Cheers Tony, yeah especially when someone's asking 6 grand-ish more for one that's arguably worse 😂

Beautiful bike. Mine is a US import and the hideous ginger brown. But I still love it.

I have a Ginger Brown 77 too, I imported it from Iowa, 1 owner 5000 miles....hate the colour but loath to change it because the bikes so original!!!....

Back in the day . I had a IT 175 enduro , 2 of my m8s had xt500s . Wow I wished I'd had a xt, they could go every where no problems with that torque. Yamaha still making the SR 400 . Wished they made a XT400.

I’m not entirely sure but I think that’s my old bike, has it still git the original tool kit? And 7 grade stainless rear spokes?
@edwards0matic2 жыл бұрын
Don't think it is Billy, I imported this from Canada .. spokes / rims are original Excel Takasago.
@anthonynicholich96542 жыл бұрын
XT500 so much more durable then any Honda xr then or now.
@edwards0matic2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, the early twin shock bikes I agree i'd give a nod to the Yam's but after they all went to monoshock I prefer an XR myself.

I had an XT 500 as well as aTT 'for some reason it didn't have the power of my TT ' it seemed to have decent compression judging by the kickstarter ' but it drank oil even though there was no smoke from the exhaust . I didn't know as much about motors back then ' so I sold it 'if it was now I'd fix it.
@edwards0matic Жыл бұрын
Yeah the TT,s are a bit quicker, mainly just from the weight difference though they're tuned a bit better too as they didnt have to comply so much with emissions stuff.
@barrycuda3769 Жыл бұрын
@@edwards0matic I think my XT was probably low on compression 'or had an issue with valve sealing . Are the TT's 's lighter because of the frame steel?
@kibe29142 жыл бұрын
Nice bike!! Why dont you use the decompression lever?
@edwards0matic2 жыл бұрын
Cheers - I like to feel the piston lock up so I know that I'm exactly on top dead centre before giving it a kick.
