Thanks for posting. Was looking at your VFR but it would be a bad idea. Should have got one in 1988 instead of a GSXR750J. Should have got one in 1995 instead of an FJ1200. Got a 25 year old Harley low rider but sometimes a fairing and brakes would be nice. Lucky we have 99+ fuel in the UK for now. You'll regret selling it, might be a while but sure as anything.

I only owned the bike for a couple of years but yeah nothing went wrong with it. I think as long as you turn the bike off with the decompressor and not the ignition it's as reliable as any other big thumper (XR650's, KLR's etc).

@edwards0matic7 ай бұрын
Cheers Wattie, sad to see this go ... The 400 is the best XR they did (as you know being an owner!) and yeah I like the sound even with the diffuser still in the exhaust. Yep mines the same, the idle was already up a bit before the vid started. Idle up, choke on, few prime kicks then a proper kick. Starts every time.

Your bike is a beauty! I had a Honda XL125 in the 80s for my first bike and it was a really reliable and fun bike. I've had loads of bikes since and still have three old Kawasaki's but miss the single cylinder air-cooled and I'd love to get a big thumper bike to knock about Somerset. Might have to go down the Mash 650 route to get close to what you have ... shame the big manufacturers don't still make such nice straightforward bikes now. 🇬🇧👍
@edwards0matic9 ай бұрын
Cheers Trevor, I know it's a shame bikes are so complicated now, though as you say those Mash bikes don't look half bad .. I'd always prefer one of these XL's (or an XT500) to scratch the single cylinder itch though .. even compared to new bikes they still ride really well.
@Jedders19689 ай бұрын
You're right. The Mash bike would never match an XL or XT for cool factor. The electric start is tempting though. 😄👍

@edwards0matic Жыл бұрын
Yeah pretty much that. To start them from cold just hold the decomp lever in and have the throttle wide open, kick through maybe 5 or 8 times, then let the decomp / throttle out, get it to top dead centre on the stroke and do a hard, normal kick. It sounds more complicated than it is but it's easy (like you see in the vid!).
