I had one of these back in the late 90's -Olds 403 4 barrel. The vinyl top was shredded on top but the rest of the car was in good shape. I bought it for $2000 and I sold it a few years later for something like $1500 to a young kid who lived down the street from me at the time. Mine came with Riviera wire hubcaps wheels which I removed and I spent a ridiculous fortune replacing with Cragar rims and mag tires. Wasn't a fast car as none of them were in those days but still looked pretty cool. Wish I still had it now.

Not the best year for Riviera. 74-78 included. They looked like an embellished Le Sabre...but it's a good specimen. 1979 they returned to great styling not based on the Le Sabre frame.

@@youtold7727 I bought a 1985 Riviera in 2002. It had about 75k miles on it. I was the 3rd owner. It was a beauty ...but nothing but troubles. Electrical issues and transmission problems in the first month. Sold it to a guy looking to replace his 1986 after about 2 months owning it. It was the only used car I'd ever bought that was a problem from the start of ownership. Bought a 1999 LeSabre in 2009. It was a great car. It had about 75k on it. MPG was over 30 on the highway. Does anybody drive an old car anymore? Also had a 1998 Villager van. Another great car. Bought it with about 135k on it in 2011 and sold it with over 230k miles still running great but someone hit it and insurance totalled it.

@@robertpace901 ….Funny you mentioned transmission. The 79’ my Dad bought brand new had a transmission leak from day one. I’m not talking anything major probably a pint every 6 months but a leak nonetheless. When he brought it back they found nothing wrong and he fought some but in the end they weren’t having it there was nothing wrong with transmission so he lived with it. One thing about the 79’-80’ models was the engine they had 350 Oldsmobile. He drove that car for 12 years and it looked and drove as it did from the beginning. 80k on it when traded. The car never hit the lot it was sold before it was prepped. Didn’t need anyway but I saw the car a year later and it was beat. Filthy interior, exterior filthy looked like a different car. The Toronado was a favorite too.

@@youtold7727 my aunt bought the new downsized 1986 Cadillac Sedan De Ville. Just after the year long warranty was up the transmission went out and the dealership wanted to charge for a new transmission. My uncle, her husband, had been buying Olds Cutlass, 88 and 98s and Cadillac's every three to four years for both he and my aunt for four decades from that dealership. He was furious. The dealership eventually fixed it for no charge. There's very few of those 80s and 90s GM fwd cars still on the road. They were horrible quality. Coincidentally I bought my first car out of high school at that dealership. My dad and uncle were with me as my dad had to sign the loan. It was a 1970 Cutlass S. I was a big Oldsmobile fan even at 18. I took my 70 Cutlass to my new factory job. In the first week I owned it one of my co-workers told me his friend, who also worked at the same factory, use to own my car. I met him and we discussed the car. I told him the mileage and he said that wasn't the mileage he had in it. That same dealership, a Cadillac and Oldsmobile dealer, had turned the mileage back. We took it back and they played dumb but took it back. This was 1972. I knew a guy in the late 90s who was an airline pilot for the govt. He use to o fly prisoners from the middle east to Guantanamo in Cuba as well as other international destinations. On the side he use to turn back mileage on cars. He did it with a drill. So it still happens. He was also a private investigator. Could find out anything on anybody. He was kind of a Macgiver type. A very strange guy. I always thought he was CIA.

@@robertpace901 ……Turning the odometer back in those days was quite popular then the states cracked down but the dealership would change the cluster , only thing this had to be known but dealer wouldn’t come right out and tell you but in the many papers you sign at purchase it was there but how many people really pay attention most just sign without reading wanting to get out of there. By the way at 18 years old I bought a used 71’ Cutlass S it had 32,000 miles when I bought it from private seller. Oldsmobile was always my favorite car I’ve owned 9 so far. I had a friend similar to your friend he worked for ATF. There’s a great story on how I met him and how I found out he was ATF. I won’t get into it much on here but I was working in a place where some people was moving artillery illegally and that’s why he was there but I didn’t know him then it was a few years later he was hired by my employer in a different state and we became friends. One night he start naming places and names from the town few years earlier. He kinda blew my mind. He mentioned names, places, said things about me that he knew. Now this place we went to work in suit/tie neatly shaven, etc. so he shows me a picture of how he looked as ATF he looked like something from the deep woods. Those were the days now just getting older hoping for some excitement lol Nice talking to you

You're in the car business and don't recognize a build sheet? What else don't you recognize when looking at and trying to resell a car? I guess it doesn't matter as long as you make a buck or two, right?

What matters is that I describe the car correctly. Not sure why that is the only take away you got from watching this detailed video. And not sure if you work to make money, but that is the point of having a job. I am very transparent, that is what matters.

Really appreciate your videos. Not in the market, but love the way you present every detail from the perfection to the imperfection. These are the cars of my early adulthood when I was a poor college student and could only druel when one of my more well off family members would bring one home while I was still driving my '64 Impala (which I would love to have today.) Anyway, the respect you show for these machines is very cool and rare. 🚘 Happy Holidays! 🎄

That's not a build sheet, that's a broadcast sheet. The build sheet is computer printed with an IBM printer and represents the complete car and has things like all of the RPO codes, the dealer it was invoiced to, the dealer it was sold to, etc. That is body broadcast sheet as it says on the top of the document and was generated likely on the Fisher Body side, which was normally adjacent to the assembly plant, but not all of the time. Some of the same information is on both documents, but they are not one and the same.
