I use to build these in Fenton,Missouri Plant #1 South We had the fastest union assembly line in the world! We were building 80 units an hour! Thank You for bringing back good memories! We also built the Chrysler LeBaron on the same line,2 drs, 4 drs. & wagons. Very nice video!

What was the difference between Diplomats and Lebarons at the time? I've looked at the 1978 brochures and the surviving cars and now I really want to know.

Beautiful car! It's a shame that you don't see too many of the 1st generation Dodge Diplomat around much anymore. This body style is very rare and hard to find nowadays, because the 1st generation only lasted from 1977 to 1979. This is my all time favorite generation Diplomat. To my opinion, it's much better than the 2nd generation from 1980 to 1989. Although, the 1980 and 1981 Coupe models are not bad. But if I wanted a Dodge Diplomat, I would get a 1st generation model.

The 1980-81 2-door coupes were downsized to the Aspen platform (108.7" wheelbase) with smaller room.

I used to own a 77 two door I bought it in a junk yard in Daytona fl for 200 dollars trunk was rusted I drove it for 2 years it ran smooth as he'll and was a rocket I spanked a late 80s corvette badly on a free way he must have been embarrassed lol they will run over well 140 all day for fun with no sings of stopping the spider gears in the sure grip are not the best for burnouts that was the demise of the car would absolutely love to have another one
