My parents have a one owner 1978 Mercury Cougar XR7. Theirs is metallic blue, about the only decent blue offered that year, with a split bench in blue leather; also has the white vinyl top. Theirs also has the painted aero rear view mirrors, gauge package, light group, and auto-climate A/C and AM/FM stereo. The example here in this video is pretty low optioned, fabric regular bench seat, AM radio, regular A/C, the non aero chromed mirrors. I don't think I've ever seen an XR7 with with chrome mirrors and a full bench seat. I suspect it didn't have the factory "mag" wheels, but had the steelies with the dinner plate wheel cover. This car looks odd with the aftermarket 5-spokes. This is a nice find considering how clean it is, but it isn't a well equipped example from that era. A Marti report on this car would be kind of fascinating. I suspect very low production duplicates for an XR7 equipped this way.

I would put original factory chrome rims and White Wall tires or probably raised lettered a/o White lettered 70's radial tires all around. Very nice Mobile, 1978 was a good year!, High SK🥸ll, Disco, SNF, GREASE, ONJ, Charlie's Angel's, 89cents a gal. Etc.....👦🎄🇺🇲🎅🍪🥛❄⛸⛸🎁🏈🛷👔🧣🧤🩲📻🕯📚📬🖋💊🇮🇪✝️🦁🐅🐻 OH MY! 🐒🐒🐐🐈🐈‍⬛🍾🥃🌈🌪🪄👠👠🚬💊🛏🇨🇦🏚🧹🐄🦇🦉🪰

It’s a cover, the wheel is very slender. I had a T-bird that year and kept a cover on it.
