How freaking awesome! My first bmx 1982 I believe, those single gooseneck and black matte bars! And the moto mags, we called them honeycomb rims, what a tank! I loved that bike! I later went on to get a Diamondback Viper And Redline RL 20b I was pretty lucky to have some sweet BMX bikes as a teenager! Great days and memories, awesome video dude

Nice work on the new decals mate. I always get nervous with them. You can actually spray the frame area with a very fine mist of water before hand, a little insurance policy. A hair dryer will help with the old decals and a citric acid bath for 48 hours does wonders on the chrome or nickel plating before polishing. Cheers.

Absolutely loved the MONGOOSE brand.Had a MONGOOSE SUPERGOOSE in 1982,but sold it so I could get GREG HILL’S ‘GHP’ frame and fork set and build my own bike.I wish I’d kept it and bought a MONGOOSE PRO CLASS instead.That’s the bike I really wanted but couldn’t afford.I hope they rerelease it,as they did a year or two ago with the SUPERGOOSE & CALIFORNIA.Both of those rereleases sold out.Saw the price of an original PRO CLASS on ebay, and it was fetching over two and a half grand!!!😳

A few years ago, I bought a van for my shop and had the goal of taking off some of the decals that was left on it. ( it was a repair van) At any rate, there is a Turtle Wax product that is a decal remover and it works very well. Basically, you spray the decal and let wait for 60 seconds, but I didn't even wait and the decals came off without a lot of work... it also took off the glue residue as well. Thought it might save you some time on another project.

I know this is an older video, but that's Awesome work! In the future, you can use Maguire's Scratch X and a cotton roloc disc on an electric drill or 1/4" arbor right angle grinder/polisher and make that chrome look like new! I used them on my 85 Haro FST when I restored it.

I bought the exact same bike, 1978, I was 13, $159.97. It's the only thing I managed to hold on to, I would love to restore it to the original, but I could sell it,if the price was right, anyway , good job, Robert in NC.

I was trying to remember the placement of the decal. I tried to look at my old pics but the decals were in such bad shape and when you look online you see it both ways. I'll fix it. Thanks.
@scottwalden111 ай бұрын
Great video. Unfortunately, you've installed the top tube decal backwards. The way to remember which way it goes is "Red to the head." Meaning the end with the orange stripe should be on the seatpost end. But, it looks great otherwise. Keep up the fine content.

Yes. I realized that the day the video went up. I am going to do another video fixing it. At the time I was looking online and half the pictures showed red forward and half not. So I flipped a coin.... and lost. Thanks for watching the video. And trust me it will be fixed.

Cool vid. But I’d have never removed the decals from that frame. The cool part about this bike is it’s history. And removing the decals is such a shame. And removes its value and surviver status. 🤦🏽♂️
@alloutbikes2 жыл бұрын
That is the first time I ever removed the decals because I think the same. It's history. But these decals were so bad that it was hurting the value. I also don't repaint bikes because it's not original but as you saw the forks and crank were covered in rust. I like to leave it as original as possible. Thanks for watching.

The decals came from a guy in Australia. He has an Ebay store. Just look up 79-80 Mongoose Motomag decals. As far as parts I'm lucky it had everything already. Goodluck.👍

Some collectors want the original stickers and original patina so the whole bike is original... Since you are changing out the stickers what is your opinion on this stance towards 100 percent original vs making it look new with brand new stickers? I am curious to hear an experts opinion..
@alloutbikes Жыл бұрын
I prefer keeping it as original as possible. The only reason I replaced the decals was due to the condition of them. The decals were so bad that you couldn't read them or tell what colors they were. If you look at my other restorations they are not new looking but a clean as I could get them. Original is the way to go..... at least as original as possible. When you remove the decals and repaint the bike you lose part of the bike. Sorry I didn't get back to you. Your comment slipped through the cracks.👍
@xpez9694 Жыл бұрын
@@alloutbikes no problem! glad to get feedback. I just got my bike out of my folks shed where it had been hanging since the 80s. The frame is not rusted but needs some TLC has some oxidation I am praying some steel wool and polish will bring it back to life. The first thing I want to solve is to get the GT layback seat post released from the frame its stuck and not turning with the seat on. I am hoping a big rubber mallet will do the trick. The motomags on one wheel looks like it lost its shiny metal coat or it flaked off.. Cant tell if it is a electroplated or just silver paint. i guess if you go for original you kind of have to leave it instead of re-plating it.... and painting it silver seems like an amatuer idea... thanks for your input!
@brianwallace18992 жыл бұрын
You not only put the steerer tube on off centre but you firstly put the main top tube decal on the wrong way around, should have had the red nearer the steerer tube and the gold towards the seatpost, doh!
@alloutbikes2 жыл бұрын
I know. The head tube decal was on off center when I got it and I was going to fix it when I put the new one on. It went on the exact way It was before. As for the decal on the top tube. The old decal was so faded I could not tell so I went to Google and the first couple of pictures had the decal the way I put it. It was not until later that from an old picture of this bike I was able to tell barely the decal was wrong. I am waiting for the new decal to come in the mail for the top tube. The head tube can stay since it turned out to be the exact way it came from the factory. Working in a bike shop you would not believe the bikes coming through the door with the decals on upside down, crooked or just the wrong one for the bike. My favourite one was a Specialized Stumpjumper A1 that the Specialized was misspelled. It said Specalized. So in other words after I fix the top tube decal (because it bothers me) it will be fine. Thanks.
