The reds first baseman in this game is Arturo DeFreites who played in the minor leagues or Mexican leagues from 1970 to 1986. His rookie year was 1970 when he was 17 years old. He only played for reds in 1978 and 1979.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I am a diehard Reds fan and know a lot of Reds history, but I did not know this. I knew of Arturo, but only through his brief time in the majors. Did not know that he played for that long! Also, this broadcast mentions that Arturo had a spot in the Reds starting lineup sewn up in 1974 spring training, but he lost the spot due to injury. News to me, and I find it hard to believe. The Reds were loaded in ‘74. They did have competition at 3B and in the outfield, but the competition was stiff. Dan Driessen was the good-hit no-field option at 3B that got most of the playing time. In the outfield, Pete Rose was the only sure thing, but there was a lot of talent there to compete for the other two spots, including Foster, Geronimo, Rettenmund, Griffey and I guess DeFrietes, if indeed he played the outfield. As mentioned before that 1979 season Reds were dozen games back in N.L. West race at All-Star break, but they caught fire in season's llnd half c'tchng Astros to win VIth/last, th'r 6 div. championships in 1970s. However, they'd lose in XIth N.L.C.S. in 3-game sweep to Pirate ☠️ team whom they beat all but once in their 12 reg. season duels bet. those 2 teams. Buccos themselves that season would go on to defeat Orioles 4 games to 3 in LXXVIth World Series winning 3 successive games after losing in 3, series' first 4 games

Reds/Pirates dueled each other in quartet, N.L.C.S. in 1970s w/Reds coming out victorious in each, series' first 3 d'ls in 1970-1972-1975 seasons. Buccos would return favor in IVth N.L.C.S. duel bet. 2 teams in 1979 season by pulling III-game sweep, Reds enroute to eventual VII-game victory over Orioles in that season's LXXVIth World Series
