That was entirely a wonderful fun game to watch, wow! I grew up in L.A. ,and me & family were huge Dodgers fans, this game made me think of a game i went to at Dodger stadium just few weeks after this game , it sprinkled ,and rained through out the game ,it was free jacket night ( thin plastic windbreaker ), and i was in the high cheap seats on the third base side with my mom, dad, & one of my brothers ( we wathched every game on KTTV channel 11 ) . The Dodgers were ahead of the Giants , 3 to 1 . In the 8th inn. Jack Clark hit a 2 run home run to tie it, then in the top of the 9th Willie McCovey hit a solo HR. , S.F. 4 - L.A. 3 in the bottom of the 9th Dodger catcher Steve Yeager hit a double , scoring Dusty Baker, tied going into extra innings, then it started raining again, the field was covered twice. After two rain delays ,1hr.45min. later play resumed , most of the crowd left, but we stayed, in our new cheap Dodger windbreakers, wet as heck. In the bottom of the 14th inn. The rain came down harder, and i thought they were gonna' delay the game again, then Dodger PH extrordinaire, Manny Mota, hit a long deep HR to win it S.F. 4- L.A. 5 . I remember watching this game on t.v. ( & the whole S.F. series that week ) at good old Candlestick, and us cheering Sutton on. I really liked those Giants uniforms. ( 1977-1982 ), that rainy nite in Dodger stadium S.F. wore the bright orange jerseys , they also wore black jerseys on thr road, and every time i see those uniforms ,i think of that rain game i went to, thanx for showing this , i miss hearing Vin Scully, Ross Porter, and Jerry Doggett , those are the voices of basesball to growing up. Thanx again, this is great stuff ! Bob.G

@paolo-n20004 жыл бұрын
Garvey was the premiere NL 1B in the 70s early 80s. His "stats" are almost identical (not HRs) to Willie Stargell (HOF) and Garvey had more All Star appearances, Gold Gloves, both were NL MVP, Garvey 2 NLCS MVP Stargell 1, Garvey 2 All Star MVP Stargell 0, Garvey 4 Gold Gloves Stargell 0....

Garvey gets a really bad rap for being such an elite player during his day. Obviously, I don't think he gets the credit he deserves and he is a HOF in my book... Hopefully, he gets inshrined into HOF soon.

My mom (giants fan since 1971) watched this with me and she could feel the cold and damp winds from going to miner and giants games in the 70s-90s A little story about her first ever giants game It was 1971 and she was only 6 years old.Before this day,she only ever was able to listen to giants games on the radio as it was always blacked out on tv. Being just a small child she littely thought they were real giants playing baseball (she pictured them as being 100 feet tall,long beards and hair that touched the ground and cartoonish looking. When she and her brother and dad took there seats at candlestick.My mom got super excited when the announcer told the crowd that the giants were taking the field and when she saw that they were just normal people she was pretty disappointed and confused She ended up enjoying the game though even though some hippy guy apparently went streaking during the game 😂

He started hitting there on July 21 of that season, and hit there until the end of season. (this because Reggie Smith got hurt and last played the field on July 19th). The Dodgers were 41 -26 in that time, after playing 38-57 ball leading up to that date. That 41 - 26 projects to a 99 win season over 162 games. The Dodgers got off to a crappy start due in part to letting Tommy John leave, and the team assuming Andy Messersmith could still pitch, and injuries to Doug Rau, Terry Forster, Reggie Smith, and Rick Monday. It got worse in June when the team went 7 - 20 during that month. Everybody on the bench was either too old, too young, or Gary Thomasson. LOL Their worst stretch was June 1 thru July 14 when they went 10 - 31 .... That's as bad as the 1962 New York Mets. Jerry Reuss started pitching well right after that and the team took off, but it was too little too late as they still finished under .500 for the year.
