The Bears' only defeat during the stretch half of the 1979 regular season. They stood only 3-5 at midseason, but had the league's best record (7-1) over the back half of the season. Detroit sure rose to the occasion that day to shut the Bears out.

it's hard to believe that this game is the Lion's only 2nd & final win of this '79 season (The Lions were only 2-14 that season). It's also hard to believe that the Bears would end up finishing 10-6 this same season of this game (who end up getting shut out to the Lions in this game).

Lions had high hopes heading into the '79 season as they had finished strong in 1978, but Gary Danielson suffered a season ending injury in the last preseason game and they were left with Joe Reed and rookie Jeff Komlo at QB.
