Good job. When I seen the video title i I remembered what a friend of my dad said to me with my first 124 . keep an extra set of belts mag pickup and a gal of water in the trunk along with a tool kit.

I own 2 850s, a Brava and a 128sl. I just inherited a 124 which will be here next month. Checking out your videos--although the engine is similar to my Brava, nice to see someone else doing work. Since the car has sat for years, I will definitely do the timing belt before I try to get it running, that looked like it was a bit tough, and you had the engine out! I did the one on my 128SL and it was like changing a fan belt compared to what you had to do! Thank you for your straightforward, no BS, no nonsense videos.

Definitely easier out of the car. The timing mark has one bolt and will move out of the way, so you don't have to pull the bottom pulley, unless you want to change the seal. Thanks for watching, enjoy your build. If you need 124 docs send me an email. Eldestbuilds@gmail.com

@@ELDESTBuilds Success! Dash cluster back to it's original state with LEDs. All except the lighting on the Volvo analogue clock but it works. Probably flatten my battery after a week. Great work Eldest! Sound deadening material is in, just have to put the interior back together. Cheers Trevor.

Thanks for uploading the video. I have a similar problem, I replaced the pickup, spark plugs, cap, rotor, and lines but now the car only starts if I keep the accelerator held to the floor and when it does run, it’s super rough and I can smell gasoline. I have an 81 spider FI if that helps. Thanks for all your uploads they really helped me when working on my car.

Check setting on the timing. The FI models other issues. Here are some links I found. fiatspider.com/f15/viewtopic.php?t=7998 www.fiatspider.com/f15/viewtopic.php?t=31041 www.fiatspider.com/f15/viewtopic.php?t=8009&start=15

If you take an old bath towel and below the carb or dist and give it a bib, screws, bolts, clips, finger, it catches these items. I always have a mantra that I use as i am taking off hard to get fasteners " I you drop it, you die"

I have 1977 Spider I’m working on right now. I have to replace all of the wiring harness. Where did you find yours? Beautiful build btw!
@ELDESTBuilds3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, the wiring harness is original. It was not too hacked by the owner. I just cleaned most of it and added what I needed. You might want to look at, www.painlessperformance.com/wc/10201 It's has all the wires marked where they go. I'm not aware of a complete wiring harness available. Midwest Bayless seams to have the most electrical components available. www.midwest-bayless.com/c-35-wiring_Fiat-124SC-0.aspx

What would be the best way to fix it if it has jumped timing without having to take the whole thing apart
@ELDESTBuilds7 ай бұрын
Jumped timing usually means the gears slipped out of sync with the timing belt. If that's your situation, you'll need to be looking at my timing belt removal and install videos. I have all the books in a Google drive folder. Send me an email eldestbuilds@gmail.com

Hello sir, I love your videos. I have a 1982 fiat spider and am having a problem. It will start and run for 10 minutes and then shut off. It does this consistently. Then it will not crank for a couple of hours.I have replaced the ign coil module and checked the coil-it ohms at 11000 and replaced the condensor. I have tested the pickup coil and it has continuity and the wiring is not broken(like in your video) but I am thinking this may be still be the problem? any help would be appreciated. thanks, Joe

Fuel injection?
@joelove46072 жыл бұрын
Yes it is fuel injection.
@ELDESTBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Send me an email eldestbuilds@gmail.com I have a Google drive folder that has the fuel injection guide in it. If the car runs sometimes, ignition is probably not the problem. Most likely a hiccup with the injection.

Helpful video for non mechanics, white ign. Pickup wire should be secured so that it won't melt against exhaust manifold, beard and tattoos typical, Mark Bury.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pump outputs from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.

Hi Eldest, please never turn the engine over the camshaft again. You put extreme strain on the belt and the Kevlar fibers tear in it. Then he likes to break unexpectedly. That's really bad advice to others. I recommend shifting to 4 or 5 speeds and depressing the car with the ignition off. One person can do it on a flat surface without any problems. I don't understand why you don't try a spark as the first diagnostic. I pull the power cord from the spool, use a spark plug or hold it with pliers to see if there is a spark. Then I move on. What are you measuring on that spool, please? Tension? If the ignition is switched on, the engine does not rotate, so you will always measure 12V on terminals 1 and 15! At the moment of rotation of the motor (distributor), 12V to 0V resp. ground. The primary and secondary windings are interconnected. You can measuring only Ohmic. The electricity in the car is probably not your forte. I'm sorry, maybe you're not offended. But some of your advice can harm another. I have and i like Fiat 124. I use google transaltor, have a nice day everyone. :-)
