Wow, Dad bought a new Green GMC Sierra in Dec. 80 for my birth, petrol engine though. It looked just like that, same color. Few years later he painted the top white. Ima show my dad this one, thanks for the upload.

Whoa, Nelley. It HAD a diesel originally, and was converted (at least the top half was changed out) to a gas engine 350 as it sits. That was pretty common in those years. You kept the good part of the diesel engine and swapped in a more reliable Q-jet. You got a beast of a gas engine. LOL. I think A&G GMC became what is today Lawrence Hall GMC, no record of A&G exists, they may have gone out of business a long time ago. VIN is T for GMC Division (it would be a C for Chevrolet) C for 2WD, Z for 350 Diesel V8, 1 for 1/2 ton (as evidenced by it being a "15" series truck), 4 for conventional cab and chassis/pickup truck, 9 for 1979 model year, S for St. Louis, MO assembly, the rest is the production sequence. Yes, LF9, same RPO code as the 350 Olds Diesel VIN code "N" used in the cars. The issue with these was poor cylinder head bolts. By the time GM corrected it, their reputation was tarnished for good. Aftermarket bolts like those from ARP solve the problem.

I need to pay more attention😄. At least i spotted the olds edelbrock performer rpm intake as I was walking away. If you didn't see it, it was all the way at the end of the video. I bought it for $50

We did a lot of those conversions ( blown up diesels to gas mills) back in the day, on both cars and trucks. Nice thing was they never had to go for emissions, so the owner could get as mild or wild with the new Olds, Buick or Pontiac engines as they wanted. Most went with a gas Olds 350. I remember we depleted local scrap yards of used 350s in a short time, and had to start shipping them in from out of state. We couldn't give the dead diesels away, and sold them for scrap. And since it was originally a diesel, they had fairly HD drivetrain parts on them from the factory. Most trucks we saw had the nice hydroboost, TH400, and at least a 12 bolt in them.

Honestly I have no idea how I messed that up calling it a diesel. I must be losing it in my old age
@googleusergp5 жыл бұрын
Yup. Here in NYC there were shops that specialized in diesel to gas conversions. My friend had an '80 Olds Cutlass that was converted from a diesel to a gas. It was a nice car until he slowly wrecked it over time, including getting a blow out at 115 MPH and wiping out the plastic inner fender well. I didn't realize it until one day when I opened up the hood and saw my feet and all of the ground around me and the "evidence" in the trunk, a completely shredded tire and wiped out Olds rally rim.

Man I'm jealous of the junk yards in your part of the country VA beach area junkyard wise sucks I hit that like button to man as always

Appreciate it👍 As I mentioned B4, I can totally relate to crappy yards. We had plenty of them back home in Florida.
@googleusergp5 жыл бұрын
@@ClassicRideSociety Worse here in NYC. We have to go to NJ or PA for the good yards (3 hours away in most cases). The land here is worth a fortune, so no one wants to have a junkyard in their backyard and it's tough to find a lot of land big enough for a junkyard around here.

I must be losing it in my old age, calling that Olds a diesel when it clearly wasn't.

Now if she had the original, unmolested diesel engine, that would be quite a site, I'd hesitate to part her out and instead sell her. Hope you scored the Edelbrock, always a swap meet deal maker along with the Muncie parts ^^

I'm still scratching my head on how I called it a diesel. Guess my mind was on autopilot or something. I got the intake for $50. I think it was a good deal. If youre still wanting those caddy parts, here's my email factoryautoair06@gmail I'll see what I can do.

The V8 diesel blocks were high nickel content to stand up to the higher compression, if you ever run across one that’s not cracked (good luck with that) snatch it up
