1979 HONDA XR80R

That was the first bike I ever owned. Summer of 1979, I was 8 years old and my parents bought it for me (and my little brother got a Honda 50 cc). Parents still live on the 10 acre spread they bought back in 1973. We had the bikes and 4 snowmobiles. Nothing but great memories. I beat that XR80 to hell and it ran like a top. Got handed down to my brother and he beat the hell out of it. Sold it to a neighbor a few fields away and saw it when I was home from college in the early nineties. The guy who had it said it went through his 3 sons and they beat the hell out of it and it just wouldn't die. Last I knew another guy bought it and was teaching his girl to ride (late nineties).

Awesome '79! The '79 XR80 is more closely related to the competition XR75, than the later XR80 play bikes. My first bike was a '79 XR80. (I am still looking for it) I used to grass drag mine, never lost a race. I do own a '79 now, not my original, but was my girlfriend from high school's bike. After she passed away, (murdered) her mom gave me her bike. I treasure it and am just about to get into a full restoration of it. But still hoping that one day that mine will show up.

My first bike was an '84 XR100. First year of the mono-shock in the model I think. I loved it but it was painfully slow.

Well yeah I know that, but the frames date is “1978”. Which is the last year of the XR75
