I just picked up one of these little z50’s. The kick start shaft is broken off and what you did with the drill motor was brilliant. Thanks. Now I need to find the parts.

Seems like it has a -78 or older motor, thats why its got a lighting coil and more than 1 wire from the stator. Check the engine no, should start with AB02 for the -79
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
It’s the correct engine, but someone could have swapped the stator at some point.
@andreasbrander98192 жыл бұрын
@@MiniBikeMike probably correct, but also the crankshaft, the AB02 engine used a crank with a longer flywheel shaft

Beautiful project... a relic straight from the 70s 👏👏👏 In Japan those Z50 are highly sought after and they customize them in a thousand ways 👍

Those taller handlebars on the 79 is nice for bigger riders. They don't hit the knees like the shorter bars used in all years later.
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
I also like that the bars are mounted in a riser, so you can adjust them forward/back. The 98 Z50 had bars that were mounted solid, no way to push them away from you.

Ide like to see you put a 190 cc motor in.a bike.
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
Already done that, like 10 years ago. I’m not a fan of the 190’s…..not worth the cost. Almost every person I know that has installed one either took it back out within a few months or sold the bike…..me included. On mine, the charging system sucked, the engine vibrated and you definitely need an external oil cooler. Because I want my bikes to look stock, I really don’t like the look of oil coolers, so my 190 has been on a shelf for 9+ years.

I googled Sachs Madass 125cc wiring diagram and got multiple good pics online. It looks to use the wiring colors as any Honda.

Good day Mike. Wondering if you can help me? Got a 78 ct70 changed the head on the motor but now i have no spark.i did the tests you show on your videos,got power from stator,power up top going to coil,tested the coil with 6v and works fine got spark,changed the condenser but when back together still no spark when cranking.Any suggestions? Anything will help. Thanks.
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
Do you have a battery plugged into the harness? If not, the coil is disconnected from the harness. Have you tried running a jumper from the black wire of the stator to the black wire of the coil? This will bypass the harness and narrow down a problem area.
@karlprosser712 жыл бұрын
@@MiniBikeMike I’ll try that thanks

I tried using a jumper from the stator to the coil wire and still no spark but i have power from the stator with a test light and the coil works with 6v directly to it. I’m a little bit baffled.
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
@@karlprosser71 The test light might only be telling you that the points are opening/closing, there may be a wire grounded somewhere behind the flywheel. Did you see the first video I posted on the 1979 Honda z50, from a week ago? Try connecting the jumper wire to the black wire coming out of the engine and as you’re turning engine over, scratch the other end of the jumper against the engine case. You should see spark. Check out that video to see what I’m talking about. Also, check your point gap. If the points open too far, the spark won’t be passed along to the coil.
