The actual airdate was September 7, 1980 at 10:35 PM. The sign-off for KPNX occurred at approximately 12:36 AM that night. I've figured out this information from the Arizona Republic's archives.

KPNX really drove home their "It's All Right Here" motto didn't they...even at the sign-off.

ICYMI: The movie credits were from The Birdmen (1971).

Thank you for your comment. This made for television film was given multiple names. I was born in 1982 which was over a decade after this film was released. In my opinion it is a very good film with a talented cast. It might not be as detailed as the 1955 European black and white documentary film but that doesn't mean that it is not good.

That's incredibly sharp for 1979 footage. What tape format was this? V-CORD2?

I would hardly consider it sharp. The competing Beta and VHS formats performed better. The V-Cord2 format was only sold by two manufacturers. It allowed two recording modes (STD standard and LP Long Play). This was recorded in the LP Long Play mode. I had to edit as 1080P just so KZbin wouldn't totally maul it during conversion. I have noticed that anything below 720P gets highly compressed by KZbin.

Funny, but the static at the end is really unique. Suggest you upload that as it's own clip! (Seriously.)

Static snow is something that is no longer seen on modern day digital television broadcasts. It was beautiful in its own special way.

interlacing issues seem more obvious at 9:03 when viewing at 1080. How did you digitize? Any deinterlacing?

I know that video can be upscaled and enhanced with A.I. artificial intelligence software. I like keeping the captures as is with all their defects and charm. I digitized by feeding the composite video from the 1976 Sanyo VTC-8200 VCR through the Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder. This recorder is inexpensive and easy to acquire (about $65 on eBay). It has pass-thru video cleaning (quasi TBC time base correction). Without it the video is jittery and has horizontal tearing. I used a USB 3.0 video capture device and captured in MP4 H.265 at 1080P 17,000kbps video bitrate. I know that 1080P at 17 megabits is overkill but it is necessary to minimize resolution loss by KZbin.
