1979 Pepsi Team Challenge Sensation Basin

Sensation Basin, Gainesville Florida hosted many of the competitions from the early days of skateboarding. The Pepsi Team Challenge II from 1979 was especially fun and many of the early stars of the sport called the park home. Pepsi has since gone on to sponsor the Extreme Games (X Games) with their Mountain Dew products. I competed against Bella at the Santa Monica Boys Club Pepsi Contest. He won. I got second place. There was a plexiglass halfpipe that we skated.

Totally dig this! Fun rad skating at this one including Shaun Jackson from Mel Bch, Chris Baucom from G'ville, Clyde from Daytona Bch, Kelly Lynn(Daytona Bch) was a hot youngster skating for Markel & Rodney always blew my mind! Can't believe how young my twin & I are, 17 yrs old.

Went there one time in 78-79. 15 yrs old. From South FL so I skated all the parks down there. That wall at Sensation Basin was pretty Harry. What was it 12ft with 3-4 of vert? Long time ago.......
