I own a Solar Gold ‘79 T/A. I bought it 4 years ago. I’m the second owner,and it only has 86,000 original miles on it. It’s in BEAUTIFUL CONDITION,and I have the 301 with automatic transmission. I placed 3rd in my first show,and I didn’t even have the car washed or waxed! Get THIS…even my clock keeps ACCURATE TIME! I absolutely LOVE these cars! GREAT VIDEO! 😉

The difference between 185 hp 403 and 220 hp 400 was very noticable. The 155 hp 301 was unbelievably slow trying to pull the weight of this car.
@briancenti54235 жыл бұрын
olds engine had 185hp, as this car has. the T/A6.6 pontiac 400, which only came with a 4-speed in '79 actually had 260hp,the 220 hp rating was drastically under rated as it ran a mid 14 sec time with the 4-speed. gorgeous car as i had one identical to this.

nothing beats driving a TA on a weekend ! I love TAs .... I own two show quality Trans Ams ; a 79 black Y84 400 4 speed t-tops , and a 73 455 white automatic and both steal the show wherever they go , even from exotic cars ....) we used to have them in great numbers in Saudi Arabia back in 1970s and 1980s

This was the exact first new car I ever bought in the same color. Think is was around $8500 or so at Mack Pontiac in Toms River NJ. Boy did I love this car. It didn't hold up too well however. It was also heavy and not that fast but with that said, I was thrilled with it. Someday will probably buy a restored one.
@googleusergp6 жыл бұрын
I remember Mack Pontiac. $8500 sounds about right, my parents 1980 Turbo Trans Am (also purchased in NJ, at Park Pontiac in Jersey City) was $8900 out the door with tax. The car was $8200, just $300 over the GM dealer invoice. My father was a keen negotiator. Back then, you didn't have the tools like Edmunds and the like to know the dealer invoice prices to work up from, so it was true customer vs. salesman negotiation. I still have the car today. A few years back, I looked up the salesman online (still have his business card from 1980) and what do you know, he's still selling cars and he remembered the car and my family.

With the Olds 403, the shaker decal should be "6.6 LITRE" NOT "T/A 6.6".

why they put olds engines in them?

Correct it shud read 6.6 litre not. T/A 6.6

@@erickort1987 For emissions compliance in required areas (the 400 Pontiac could not be certified for California) and also due to production capacity. In 1978, GM stockpiled 400 W72 engines for the 1979 model year. When they ran out, they ran out. If you ordered a 400 and they ran out, you either had to take a 403 Olds (the standard engine), or you took a credit and got a Pontiac 301 4 barrel in 1979.

TA does not belong on the shaker scoop, only pontiac W-72s have that. that is an olds motor.
@rogermurph1018 жыл бұрын
Should say "6.6 LITRE".
@googleusergp6 жыл бұрын
@@rogermurph101 Correct. 403 Olds cars from 1977 to 1979 would say "6.6 LITRE". Also, 1977-1978 base 400 engine cars (180 hp) also said "6.6 LITRE". Only W72 cars (200 hp in 1977, 220 hp in 1978-1979) got the "T/A 6.6" decal. Also, the slash between the "T" and "A" is missing on at least the right side hood scoop decal.

@googleusergp6 жыл бұрын
@pmerk36 They're always off on some cars. Van Nuys and Norwood produced these cars at 45 or so an hour, and the line didn't stop for anyone. There were a few bulletins that GM issued over the years, including a "build up" using foam tape to level them off, but many were never 100% from new.
