What a game. Alabama's goalline stand was one of the most memorable moments in college football history. Quite a Penn State team too. They routed Ohio State in Columbus in the opener.

Tremendous game. Thanks for posting. I remember this game well as I watched it with my dad - he was a USC grad. We were pulling for Alabama (who USC had beaten comfortably earlier in the year) who by defeating undefeated Penn State gave the Trojans a share of the national championship. Jackson and Broyles what a team.

I was there. I've been to over 600 Tide games and I have to list this as one of the top five significant wins (maybe top two) since the early 1970's. The goal line stand has become part of college football folklore, and a seminal moment in the history of the sport.

If you watched the NFL in the 80s, you'll recognize a bunch of these players. These two teams were chock full of talent.

Not sure why, but to me Major Ogilvie is the epitome of an Alabama player. He wasn't necessarily a star, but the guy who makes smart decisions and does the little things to win.

He was a HUGE star. He had fans all over the country including me.

@@debbiehenson1096 I meant not like Tony Nathan, or Barry Krauss or Marty Lyons. But I suppose anyone who starts at Alabama is a star. Trivia: I worked with someone years ago who said that Major Ogilvie was part of a group that would escort women across campus at night as a safety effort. Said he was very genuine.
