Best part was no stupid celebration. Just jogged back to his position after scoring one of the best goals you will ever see.

I want to say a big "THANK YOU " for posting this magnificent moment in Fitzroy history. I'm a Roy Boy from long ago and was at this game amongst the faithful. I remember my Dad saying to me when we kicked the first goal," it's been a long time kiddo". My first game was in 1977 at the Junction vs South Melbourne. I would give everything I have just to go back and watch them in their prime... I walked away from the game after the AFL murdered us and haven't been back since. If you could please keep posting any old Fitzroy games I would be so thankful. Awesome channel, keep going. PJ

Me too except I was 9 and a Bombers fan. Fitzroy had destroyed Essendon at Windy Hill earlier that year as well (first and only time I ever sat in the Member's Stand), so yeah getting a bit sick of Fitzroy by then. Not to mention the 81 and 86 Elimination Finals. Fitzroy's best during that time, certainly in 1983, was enough to win a Flag. Who knows if that would have changed their fate, but they deserved better.

Blowing the last game at Geelong when they had it in the bag proved costly for this Fitzroy side. They needed that double chance.

Great post Gezza, an important part of Fitzroy's history and barely any other footage ever shown before. I'll be interested to see if Robert Hyde appears in what was his last game.

Memories of how great footy used to be when the rules allowed players to play without being measured to the millimetre. Forgot that Alan Davis played also for Essendon. Big names from previous clubs in Fitzroy: Walls, Quinlan, Max Richardson... Note the font used in the electronic chyron for the scores: same as the one used in the 1977 season (and, notably, both GFs). Mercedes-Benz also used it in the late 2000s / early 2010s C class cars on the dashboard.
