These older 70's games are so much better than the crap that is shown now. The Announcing was better, the presentation was 1000 times better and the play by play calling was by far better. For some of the early 70's games I was not able to see them. Considering I was born in 1967. But once I started Monday Night Football was epic! The NFL Today on CBS also EPIC! Just good old fashioned FOOTBALL! Gotta love it!

@@danorthsidemang3834 why agree with him and be rude at the same time? One of the great things about watching these old games is reading the comments. We older fans like to treat each other with respect. Take that kind of talk to the modern football videos and hang out with the millennials.

I really like seeing offensive and defensive linemen wearing "real man" football face masks. Everything was tougher back then.

@shanetrimble9265 Gen Z, my generation, can also get pretty toxic. At this point, it's all the same but with different people.

One year later the Bills would win 11 games, the division, and had Ferguson not had that hurt leg in the Chargers playoff game Buffalo had a great shot to get to Suoer Bowl 15. The Bills defense held Fouts and Air Coryell in check, and really should of won that divisional playoff game in 1980.

I was 11, 1st season as a bills fan in 1980, charlie romes dropped an interception and chargers scored game-winning 50 yard td pass the next play with seconds left, we would have played the eventual champ raiders in buffy the next week had we held on. This was the set up season for knox, my fav bills coach, tks for posting! 👍

The Bills had the Chargers on the ropes with an injured Joe Ferguson. If he had been healthy, the Bills would have won that Divisional game and then proceeded to dismantle the Raiders at Orchard Park. 1980 was the Bills' year. In 1981, they were good but not at the same level as in 1980.

I agree. The pass defense rules were changed to allow more offense, yet the 1970s gritty football was still present.

Something about old games like these hit different, and as someone not old enough to have seen em, it feels right.

Yep, and earl still in the end zone. If earl could have anticipated that better, I think Tatum would have gotten back up. But that one did hurt earl a bit

Lou Piccone was a fan favorite at Shea before the jets traded him to the Bills for a draft choice...he wasn't big but he was very fast ..ran a legit 4.4 40 yard dash...

The Bills had a history of being very tough on even the best Jets teams. They were the only AFL Eastern Division team to beat the Jets from 1967-1969. Even in 1968, when the Jets won the Super Bowl and the Bills won the O.J. Simpson sweepstakes by going 1-12-1, the Bills beat the Jets 37-35 and led the rematch after 3 quarters before falling 25-21.

Amen. That's like the Cowboys/Redskins... In Jimmy Johnson's first season, they went 1-15. Their only win? Against the defending World Champion Redskins.

Good thing there was no social media of WFAN back then to clobber Toni Linhart. This actually would be Linharts last season in the NFL, hardly shocking after that performance. Spent most of his carrer with the Colts.

This was typical ground chuck offense game for sure. Knox was a godsend for the Bills when they were putting together 2 and 3 game wins per season.

Terry Miller is such an odd story in Bills history. As OJ Simpson's replacement in '78, he ran for over 1000 yards as a rookie and made the all-rookie team. Then in '79 as the announcers keep mentioning he had a big dropoff. His third year, enter Joe Cribbs and Miller sits on the bench, Green Bay picked him up in the off season and he sat on the bench there, and then is out of football after 4 years but really only 2 since he sat for 2 mostly. How do you go from a 1000-yard rusher and all-rookie team to out of football in 4 years (but 2 of them barely being used) without injuries? Part of it I think was The Bills had a lousy pass blocking line in 1978, and Chuck Knox kept trying to make Curtis Brown A Thing, then Roland Hooks A Thing, then in '80 Knox brought in an over the hill Laurence McCutcheon. All that platooning seemed to hurt Miller, as well as a head coach who gave up on him way too fast. I've always considered the Miller situation to have been a big missed opportunity and squandering of a promising career.
