I wish the Pirates could make it back to the World Series. 1960, 1971, 1979, those were the glory days.

I'm hoping McCutchen, Joe, Cruz, Gonzalez, Reynolds, Suwinski, Olivares, Grandal, Bart, Jones, Keller, Skenes, Falter, Perez will bring us there. I know some of them have similar positions. But they're my fav players of the team and I hope they'll get there in Cutch's last year.

i grew up in Baltimore and this was 12 days before my tenth birthday. I was heartbroken, crushed, gutted - basically introduced the whole cocktail that is shock/anger/denial and a shot of depression for a chaser. When Baltimore was up 3 games to 1, T-Shirt makers started running off World Champion Orioles shirts. After the Orioles lost, they put an iron-on on the back that said; "almost" I still have that shirt.

who could've guessed it would turn out to be the last world series they would ever win. sad to think about how nutting and other cheap ass owners have turned this team in to a laughing stock.

I remember seeing the game in a b/w television set in Venezuela, alone, because I was the only one in my family that understood some baseball, beeing recent inmingrants to that country. Since that year baseball is my favorite sport . I returned to Chile 30 years ago but I follow the old ball game every year. Wish MLB begins ASAP and see the 41 year drought end!!!!

So, Chuck Tanner's mother had passed away during the series and yet, Baltimore fans booed not only the Pirates during the introductions but they began with him? Wow, classy. SO happy that the Pirate's won!

Intro, they said it was 38 degrees, It wasn’t even cold, it was warm. It was cold for the first two games. Some people think they have to make things up for the dramatic. As a matter a fact (even though they lost) Baltimore had a parade for the Orioles, and it was unseasonably warm.

I am not a fan of either of these teams and yet I still feel this is perhaps the greatest World Series ever played. The gritty funk of the 70s hadn't quite given way to the glossy sheen of the 80s, and indeed the almost garish uniforms worn by these teams would be ditched not long after the 70s ended. Both the Pirates and the Orioles were pillars of baseball at this time too, and they had met in another World Series just eight years earlier that had ended in essentially the same way: a game 7 victory for Pittsburgh in Baltimore. In 1971, Roberto Clemente led the Pirates to victory; in 1979, it was Pops Stargell's turn. Great baseball, great players, great rivals, a unique and memorable era... 1979 had it all.

That was my cousin Steve. The guy rushed him and my cousin thought it was an O's fan. My father and uncle were at the game and were only a few feet away. It wasn't until Ken Burns documentary did we ever see the footage. Eventually, the guy who rushed my cousin reached out to him, and they met up for dinner 40 years later!

Lived in that small coal mining town 28 years, Curtisville and bleeding black and gold 43. Somehow in Queens past 15 (my wife lol). Edit: just wish that nut would invest in keeping a strong core of buccos together and not be a farm team for top market teams…
