Syke-Peko agreement supposed to create an Alawite state in western Syria north of Lebanon, a Druze state with Homs as capital and a Kurdish state in north of Iraq. It might seem that a Turkish state was inevitable after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire but Attaturk really created a unique nation state out of the Muslim population of Asia minor and the Muslim refugees from the Balkans and Caucasus. It was not inevitable but a great feat of statesmanship unique in the middle East. Not even the ancient histories of Egypt and Iran could create such a strong nation state like he did with Turkey.
