GM, as a whole, NAILED it with these cars!!!!!! The brochures for the '77 Caprice/Impala & Delta 88, in particular, stated "We made it right for the times without making it wrong for the people", & "The family car that didn't forget the family", respectively. Both were bang-on!!!!!

Sold a huge amount of these cars back in 78/79/80 . They were really great cars back then. Very little warranty issues at the dealership I was at.

These cars wete built really tough. I can remember how many of them were around 25 years after they were sold. 2 out of 3 families in the poorer neighborhoods had a GM sedan.

These cars drove and rode like a Cadillac. These were a poor man's Cadillac. I loved mine when I was in. My 20s, that car was the best car I've ever had.I wish I had it today

I had the 1984, 2-door with the vinyl roof. it was the smoothest, quietest car I ever had. Pretty quick too.

I still remember my teacher picking up my sister and I on our way to school each morning in his 1972 Delta 88 Royale that I ended up buying off him at age 15. He bought a New Delta 88 Royale it was 2 tone Blue and so Plush with the light blue velour and so quiet and smooth. I thought the ‘72 had a great ride and was quiet.

If that was today, your teacher would be arrested and put in jail. How times have changed. It was so innocent back then and people were kind. I miss those days and those beautiful cars!

I remember my bosses sister and her husband had one with the 3.8 V6. It was a dog on acceleration and got lousy gas mileage because you had to floor the accelerator often just to keep up with traffic. They kept if for a few years and finally traded it in. I drove it a few times and it was just awful not to mention it was as base as you could get, I think the only option it had was Air conditioning, no power windows, seats or locks, no vinyl top, just a plain beige box.

The Oldsmobile was an upper brand car in the price range of Buick and Mercury back then. They act like all of America could buy one of these. That was Chevrolet & Ford's domain.

Give me the coupe in Holiday form with rally super stock wheels, 350 Rocket and gauge pkg in that awesome green as shown on the Royal sedan. They must have made a last minute change by production time. They show the Pontiac 4.3 liter 265 V8 as being available but I only ever saw the weaker Olds 260 in these cars for the 1980 to 82 model years.
@JohnnyAloha692 жыл бұрын
Nice looking cars, the only good engine offering was the gas 350, pretty strong by 1980 standards. The 307 was a slug and the smaller engine was even worse (won’t even mention the diesel). Then new transmissions were trash too. Great driving cars though and the bodies held up much better rust wise than earlier models.
@metop332 жыл бұрын
True the 307 was not gonna win many races lol. But you’d be surprised if you put a Holley carb it definitely wakes it up. Simple mod.

@@andregonsalvez9244 Chrysler was broke and the 80’s were just dark for the American automotive industry
@ponchoman492 жыл бұрын
Big deal. That happened when these cars were old. Headliners can be easily replaced and hoods/decklids repainted. The foreign crap also had shoddy thin pain on many cars and didn't age well in these years so it wasn't just GM, Ford and Chrysler.

I remember when the 1980 Oldsmobile came out it had the gorgeous red hood on it with the word Oldsmobile at the bottom. I remember clipping off my first one and rescuing the spring as it hit the pavement and was rolling away. Peddling off on my bicycle I had a nice new one to add to my collection. Then a trip to the junkyard to get the bottom part the mount and put it all back together. Good ornament collecting was a fun hobby for young guys back in the 1980s.
