Mercury 35 horse outboard from the 80’s stopped starting- this is the exchange of a new stater and solenoid.

Thank you. You helped me a lot. I just bought a 1980 Lund from my uncle and the boat worked great the first two times I took it out. The third time I wanted to take it out, the bendix was not catching the flywheel. I took off the top of the engine and the nut on the top of the starter was gone. I looked at the date on the starter and it was from August 8th, 1979. So, I bought a new starter from Mercury on Amazon and am in the process of changing it out now while watching your video.

I wish I could see how your wires are hooked up I can’t figure if mine are hooked up wrong

paulch8 the solenoid wires, or the starter connections- probably not the starter, as they are on top.

I sold the motor after some other stuff stopped working, but I may still have the original video, with an angle of sight into that solenoid. Will check.

That is simply aluminum on the bolt threads. Dissimilar metals. You pulled the threads out of the hole.
