I really wish they’d create a cable or satellite channel that would contain a full days TV from the 80’s, with morning kids TV like Swap Shop, or Tiswas, or possibly Number 73 and Grand Stand, the Wrestling with Big Daddy, maybe Dr Who, Generation Game, all the classics, that would be incredible.

Can't believe it. I'm 50 years old, and seeing Rod and Emu get into it, with Emu trying to resist the bathtub with all his strength and Rod trying to get him in there; it had me belly laughing so loud. No wonder I loved their performances when I was so young. I honestly thought it would be a bit 'tacky' seeing it now, but it's hilarious and totally believable. I shouldn't be surprised; puppetry and ventriloquism and similar arts are pretty old skills and are a joy to watch when perfected.

I wouldn't say it feels like yesterday although it's certainly hard to believe it's been over three decades since I was looking at the world through the eyes of a child. Watching these old shows again brings about a mixture of emotions tbh. Happiness over such a rich childhood I was fortunate to have but sadness over how much things and people have changed, and for the worse in my opinion and in many peoples.

@@timewyrmrevelations7700 I thank you very much for your kind words! You are right it takes a lot of work to put these videos together, but I enjoy it. I know I made a mistake with Fraggle Rock using the US version instead of the UK version. I made this video purely from memory and I did not remember the differences between the versions at the time as I was only between seven and ten years old when the show aired, and I had not seen it since back in the day. These shows mean a lot to me, and I am very happy that you and so many others feel the same way! To you and all those eighties & nineties kids out there living their adult lives and remembering a simpler time in life I thank you all so much! Let's all try and keep a bit of that child alive in us as it really does make life more enjoyable!

It's only looking back that I realise just how rich my childhood was and how I owe allot of it to the creativity of the people making the kids cartoons/TV back then. When I look at the kids TV shows today, I don't see the same sense of fun/excitement/wonder there was with the shows back in the 80's. The children's TV shows today seem to be allot more mature/realistic which is kinda sad. When I look at the kids cartoons today here in the UK, they are mostly, if not all rebooted 90's IP's, some of which themselves are reboots from the 80's. The variation in cartoons today is way lower than it was back in the 80's too. This is even more significant when you consider that the cartoons back in the 80's were hand drawn and so were allot more expensive to make. The effort put in for 80's kids was quite astonishing in comparison to today really.

The puppets are the same ones that Harry Corbett used to appear with and Soo was voiced by Harry Corbett's wife and Matthew's mum, Marjorie. She was replaced part-way through the 1981 series by the younger-sounding current voice of Soo, actress Brenda Longman.

Is it me or did they used to say on Emus world ‘There’s somebody at the door” not there’s a knock on the door?? I’m really confused by this little snipit as I’ve been saying that for years or is it a weird Mandela effect thing again!!?? Or am I just losing the plot???
@baination782
@baination782 Жыл бұрын
I do not think you're losing the plot as I remember this myself. I think Rod Hull used to say "there's somebody at the door" on the other show he did called The Pink Windmill. Thanks for watching!

@BungleBare
@BungleBare Жыл бұрын
CITV had a big advantage that CBBC didn’t; adverts. Back then the adverts were a way of finding out what toys were out there, which stickers were about to be launched, which new sweets to ask for when Mam went to the supermarket for the “big shop”, whether Look-In was worth buying that week, which cartoons had action figures as a spin-off, etc. In those pre-internet days the adverts were a means for kids to find out what was out there in the big world. Of course, it was all stuff that parted us from our pocket money …
