I was bussed out to the ground with my brother and schoolmates from Moomba Park Primary school to be part of the pre-match entertainment. They gave us Richmond t-shirts, footy socks and a flag and we had to stand on the boundary line waving the flags. As soon as the pre-match was over, they took us somewhere, gave us each a pie and put us back on the bus home. Didn't get to see the game! Does anyone else have memories of being part of thi

By some miracle my auntie managed to get tickets to this game, so I went with my sister, aunt and my grandmother. I was 12 years old and a Richmond fanatic. I had never seen so many people in my life as at that game, we were high up in the Ponsford stand. I was on a natural high for about 6 months after that win. Now 52, I have never been to another grand final or final since and have no interest in attending another. Its great to be able to look back and watch this, how umpires can bounce the ball straight everytime even on poor surfaces, how players could kick out after a behind and land the ball in the centre and even most umpiring decisions made sense. Although I still watch games, I am becoming more and more disillusioned by the game and what big business and the corporate world have done to it. New rules every year and social posturing rounds (Gay, Multicultural, Aboriginal any issue they can think of) have ruined it for me.

Lol my dad is the same age as you and I was 12 when I went to the 2017 Grand Final with my dad. What a coincidence. My dad was 12 when we won in 1980 and I was 12 when we won in 2017.

What is with the game today, it looks a mess. Looking at how easy it was to move the ball, in the old days.Everyone playing to their position. Proper ball ups around the ground, and they kick goals.

Aussie rules football, unlike today’s rules/ so much red tape, just doesn’t have that spirit. Anyway that my opinion, I’m sure it will not be popular!
@thebob37122 жыл бұрын
This once great game is now almost unwatchable today. It's just like a roaming scrum of players, everyone around the ball and kicking backwards seems to be the norm instead attacking the goals. Someone will break free with the ball and start running forward then they just stop and kick it behind them because no one is forward of the ball, their full forward will be standing in the full back position with the rest of the team. Its fuckin shit, glad I got to watch the glory days when the Roos were a powerhouse and got to watch Carey go head to head with whoever was on him. Unfortunately when things change it always isn't for the better.
