These things were rust buckets right from the start because VW bought russian Steel. Cars that didnt pass TUV the second time round (4 Years old) were bought back by VW and scrapped. Maybe you have the one that got away;-)

You have my respect for restoring a 1.1 Golf. Everyone goes mad for GTI's when in truth these were the cars I used to see everyday when I first passed my driving test. Superb restoration mate.

Love this but don't understand why you chose to spot weld everything instead of using a MIG, TIG or even just a stick?

I would have done a hyper-equipped restomod, electric windows, power steering, electric mirrors, air conditioning, abs, interior in alcantara etc ...

Bravo! Such a perfect restoration! I've got a 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel that I would LOVE to put through this treatment. I'm so glad to see one restored with no modifications. Just as it was in 1980. Perfect!!
