It’s not just the golf mark 2, it has 4 headlamps and is 5dr tornado red. This was the car we had when I was growing up and this is the car which made me a very enthusiastic of vdubs . Thanks so much for sharing.

Very nice, truly inspiring. I bought a 1992 VW Vento a few months ago; still need to do this kind of work on it, but so far... The best car I ever had. A friend, professional car tuner, looked at it and said: "they don't make them like this anymore. " I needed a low electronics car for health reasons. The best part: they hardly rust in Portugal, so a 30 year old car just needs a bit of regular maintenance to look almost new.

Oil based instead of "eco friendly" water based paint. That's why Mercedes cars from the nineties rust so much compared to eighties ones. Same with the Golf III vs the Mk II shown here.

@@matthiasweigel311 good shape means the car is in tact..has straight lines and body panels, no huge dents, holes, pits, major rust, peeling or destroyed paint. Interior is in great condition as well. All this car needed was a bit of exterior detail TLC . It was definitely in exceptional condition based on its age before the detail

This takes me back some years... Just got my license, drove my grandma golf for some months since she was too old. God I loved every second of this car. The idle rev was too high, so without touching the gas I could swim with the traffic in the city 😅

Not so cheap in the UK anymore but you are right they are cheaper because you have to pay export duty on cars to US so it makes it not worth the effort. Keep looking always a barn find somewhere.
