Thanks++ for this, one of the few Festival races I missed over the years. Ted Walsh was riding Daring Run, Slaney Idol was actually a 2nd season novice, high-class on the flat but had jumped poorly on his only race the previous season. Going Straight became a promising novice chaser, but got injured. And once again, the size of the field!!!

The following season Slaney Idol went on to finish 3rd in the Berkshire Hurdle at Newbury and 5th in the Champion Hurdle. Deep Gale was sent chasing and initially looked like being top class before suffering training problems. Slaney (not to be confused with the winner but also Irish trained) ran again in the following day's Sun Alliance Hurdle while King's Chorus was placed in the County Hurdle 2 days later. Walnut Wonder was another useful horse, can remember Lorna Vincent winning at Ascot on him earlier that season. Oakprime was a regular for a few seasons, ran in the Grand National in 1983.
