Dusty trails and quiet roads for my unrestored monoshock bike.

Have the same bike in blue, live in UK but bike imported from France, was used as a camper van bike so very low mileage and no rust! Rear shock was wasted and took a while to find a nos one from the USA. No aftermarket one available and could not find anyone to repair original. Also fitted 175 barrel and head, converted to 12v electrics also, brilliant bike even now, thank you, love watching the 70s and 80s bikes in action, merci!

For years I had bikes with drum brakes without any issues ever, never crashed, never died because of drum brakes. It's the rider not the brakes nor the bike. Had the same bike as this in every respect, color and the year all the same as this. Was a bullet proof bike and now I'm considering buying one the same again. Brings back memories . Nice Vid .. With thanks....

I had a 1979 dt250 and it was the most durable dirtbike I ever owned. 2 tips. Playing with the engine timing until you find your sweet spot and the muffler packing will help smooth out the low rpm sputter and make it rev freer!

Finding the sweet spot, same with the YZ's of the 70's, and what a big difference it makes.

I also had one and they are bulletproof. Rode it everywhere. Fast too. Topped out 77mph.

Great bike. In the mid 1980's, I got a 1979 MX 100. I had so many cool adventures on it. The 250 looks fun.

I have a 74 MX360 & a 75 MX400b and they both still run like a bat out of hell. The 400 you can putt it around like a enduro down trails then stand in it and it instantly screams out like a YZ with no hesitation,, The 360 you can enduro it but to really make it screams its potential you have to get on the pipe and keep it there and when you do it is surprising how it can rutt some trails up,. Ive never been able to run them against each other, but honestly im not sure the 400 wld actually smoke the 360,, the 400 probably wld spin a lot and the 360's torque plants it to the ground. 400 has more instant YZ tipe rap to it but the 360's power when on the pipe is amazing and you'd best not grown up on these days bikes and underestimate these 48 49 year old saw horses with handlebars,, you gotta man handle the 360 and the 400 w/drum brakes to corner it, stop fast and quick turn as you stand back in it better understand how to lock your knees and hold on letting it dance a bit to aim it forward and not end up in the trees. If you grew up on these you understand what im trying to explain. And Dont go tryin to do no superman or backflips of nak naks on them it wldnt turn out good,,lol. Really they are some super fun bikes to ride, i enjoy the old bikes more than the new, thats just my ol 57yr old MXer ass. Ride On,,,

If this is an F model, it's supposed to be a '79 isn't it? The 1980 Yamahas were G models. In the US, they phased out the DT250 by that time and replaced it with the XT250.
@DaveZee01
@DaveZee01 3 жыл бұрын
I think you're correct. Well, as far as the XT range goes, my '80 XT500 was a G and my friend's '79 model, an F.

Very sweet bike, I would love to have it here in the states. Only thing I would do is replace the stock pipe and silencer and jet it, other than that it needs nothing.

Bonjour Christophe. Bonne route.

I haven’t rode my 250mx yet. But watched video a few time that looks so usable. I can’t wait. I just can’t decide on the. Tyres. I’ve bought two sets. So far. Think I’ll probably end up with continentals

Hello. I choose my tyres to respect the 70' look, the small square paved pattern. But I think that the Conti TKC can be a good choice
@davemonday5381

Yes that’s the problem I have the original tyres with 600 miles a little bit of dry cracks. I bought new Michelin trials tyres side walls looked very large. I have the TKC s on my DT400B and they look the part and work well. I even bought the paw print tyre to see how they looked. I’m probably over thinking it. Hey that’s for the reply. And the video it a inspiration. Looking forward to seeing you mt250. I’ve a couple one totally original and one I’ve given a lot of love. Both 75 ko models. But I’m really looking forward to the DT250E. Press on the H and check my ke250b out you’ll like it. Cheers

Just bought my DT250mx/E back from a collector. He’s had it 3 years and never even started it. It’s American so it’s silver apart from a battery new paint graphics that are show standard and a seat cover, it’s in perfect condition. Ho I also changed the bars because they where chrome. Turned out. In the USA they fitted with as standard, still got them. But a nice set of Matt black renthals look better. I’ll get it perfect. And put some nice tyres and enduro tubes on it. Then when all this silliness is over, do a adventure on it. Maybe Switzerland or Austria. Or just Scotland or Cornwall coast trip. Depending on the rules. But I will pack a tent. And have a Advenchurer on it. That’s what I did on my original DT175mx back in 79. I wish I was out with you on this video it looks incredible. Like all your videos. I’ve been doing a bit of work on my 250 most nights, and it’s a delight to work on. I like it more and more. The kickstarter was bent out and back. Turned out to be a very easy fix . If anyone is considering it one. These are good bikes, just do it. I’m trying not not to make mine concourse. I want use it, ride and enjoy it, hey press on the M and check my ke250b1 out you’ll like it. Cheers

@micoumeekoo
@micoumeekoo 5 жыл бұрын
Bonjour.

@@micoumeekoo Besides, I think I'd prefer the more free-revving nature of the 250. I know 2-strokes are usually more powerful than the equivalent 4-strokes but how does this DT compare, performance-wise, with your XT250 of similar era?
