I did my first 4-cylinder bike engine (Suzuki GS550) a couple of years ago, despite many years as a car mechanic, with bike experience limited to twins and singles, so here are a few tips I learned for refitting pistons and barrels: It's always advisable to use new circlips on the pistons, and it's easier to fit one circlip to each piston while it's off, on the inboard side, so you only have to do the easy one once they're on. I made two u-shaped blocks from 9mm plywood to slide under pistons 2 and 3 to support them squarely while I lowered the barrels. For ring compressors , I used strips of thin plastic (cut from a 5 litre screenwash can), wrapped around and held with cable ties. Once 2 and 3 are in, there's not much room to work on 1 and 4, but you can get the compressor strips out easily enough. Patience is a virtue you'll need.

Sage advice, plywood piston support makes life a hell of a lot easier. I use beer cans as ring compressors, gives me an excuse to make some empty cans, might take a few attempts... 😂😂😂

I think I prefer Sid's method/excuse!

Does tightening the rotor bolt mess with anything. I couldn't find anything in my manual after loosening the bolt accidentally.
