Produced in the 1980s, this Cold War National Guard recruiting film shows the Guard conducting war games with Bell helicopters and M-60 and M-48 tanks. Voice-over explains the importance of the Guard and the benefits to being part of the nation's oldest branch of military service. Basic training is shown. A drill instructor is shown at 2:00, and advanced training at the 4:20 mark including truck driving, welding, cooking, computer operations and more.
Women members of the Guard are also shown.
The film also shows Army National Guard working in a disaster zone, emplacing a bridge over a flooded river, and AT or "Annual Training" where war games are conducted for two weeks.
Portions of the film are said to faintly resemble the first third of "Full Metal Jacket". Musical score towards the end of the film is very "Tangerine Dream". A great '80s film!

Ohio and Florida Army National Guard from 1980-1986. Most of my unit was Vietnam Vets along with us young soldiers. Learned a lot from them! It was an awesome experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Suprised to see Huey’s with the AGM-22 missile system still operating back in 1982-83, figured they would all be gone by then.

Seeing its the National Guard, most supplies are "Army hand downs" I'd assume most supplies would be left over from the Army

@@sarge6870 modern day military is really a waste. It’s such a mess. I have no respect for the modern military. Only the veterans. I’m just done with these the military because of how much of a joke it is. A bunch of wusses just making social media videos and crying about their tiny weiner hurting. Or better yet, a bunch of trans weirdos.

It may have been filmed in 1982 despite the credits. The Army kept wearing chamber pots until 1984 or so. They still wore greens; the garrison khakis didn't go away officially until 1985. I was in high school and a lot of things (UH-60, M16A2, M-1 tank) were brand new.

So whats the difference of army national guard to the army reserve command? Im guessing they had different roles but as a non-american (im a filipino) i dont know what they differ from each other.

National guard makes up about 60% of the active army infantry tanks artillery = army reserves has the medics drill instructors, transportation that type of unit= the national guard has a state mission= like riot control and also can be activated federally = the army reserve is federal only=search= title 10 compared to title 32 USC=u.s.code

Marines complain about getting old equipment yet the National Guard in the 1980s were literally using leftovers from the Vietnam War. I see a lot of old M16A1s.
