Here's my restoration (or rebuild if you want to call it that too) of a 1980s Colin Lewis road bike. Colin Lewis is an ex pro racer who opened up a bike shop after his racing career. This is one of his shops bikes from sometime in the 1980's. A well equipped small frame with Reynolds 531c tubing and Shimano 105.
I decided the original paint was too rusty to pass on so opted for a Cerakote fade in pink to purple. I've replaced the Reynolds decals (original CL on order), cleaned up all the components and bought the matching 105 shifters and crankset. Everything is freshly grease on rebuild and ready to ride.

This takes me back to an era where the quality of a bike was judged on your Reynolds Tubing number. How things have changed.

Does that not still apply today?

@@MonkeyShred not on today's steads. For starters bikes are more often made from Carbon or Titanium on your premium bikes. Steel does still have it's place, but I don't think Reynolds y features that much. I know ten years ago Dawes was still using Reynolds on the Galaxy touring bike (nice bike).

I am trying to find a bike repair stand. There seems to be a heck of a racket with them. I don't paying a realistic price but I am offended by the ridiculous shipping charges on all I have seen. What do you think is a good price in your hands?
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say the same about fluted posts tbh! Well... In regards to stands. I have a very expensive bench mounted Park stand in the garage which works nicely but I also have the "cheap" Park stand for working outdoors. I hate it. The bike always acts as leverage and rotates the whole thing easily. If I'd have known that I would have gone for an off brand one.

You still can?
@johns3106
@johns3106 3 жыл бұрын
@s31720 Not with any groupset that's 9-speed or more. Well,...you can just push the rivet back in on newer stuff, but it is not the "approved" way of reconnecting a chain, and may lead to shifting and/or chain re-breakage problems on narrow chains.

Your brake cable routing could be nicer. The front is too long. You shouldn't cover or rub against the stem and certainly not a 3ttt logo. And the rear should ideally go outside and around the front cable. This gives a more symmetric and balanced appearance. Personally I prefer to always have the brake cables cross center front below the stem - even if it means switching front/rear brake hand (depending on what side the calipers receive the cable).
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred 4 жыл бұрын
Not that it makes it "correct" but the cable lengths were cut from the original cables.
