I longed to get the Dino Riders Tyrannosaurus Rex play set. Still remember how I was a little boy, sitting on my bedroom floor with pen and paper, calculating how many birthdays and Christmases I would have to save up to be able to afford it. I grew up in Germany and for some reason this stuff was way more expensive here than it was in the USA. Usually when I look up what toys I remember from my childhood cost in the USA, the price is one fifth of what it was in Germany. For example, I was flabbergasted when I first learned that the "Masters of the Universe Castle Greyskull" cost 20 to 25 Dollars in the USA. My parents paid like almost 200 Deutschmarks, which back then were about 100 US Dollars for it. A simple Masters of the Universe action figure cost about 30 to 40 Deutschmarks, thus about as much as the castle cost in the USA. Knowing what cheap plastic junk all that stuff was, I can understand why my parents didn't like to buy that stuff for me, but I was obsessed and would have sold my soul for that crap.

The Flintstones lasted as it was pretty much an adult sitcom in animated form, and Sooby-Doo while not at the Flintstones level, it was better quality than similar offerings of the period. The unique aspect of Scooby just connected with kids and adults, which led to even Hanna-Barbera cannibalizing its own show with tons of copy cat offerings(trying to catch lightning twice). I enjoyed many of the shows seen in this video, but the key to lasting success is syndication, and most of these shows only lasted a season, or two at most. Mr. T as an example was fairly decent, but it would only last as long as his career was relevant, and most of these shows met the same fate. Transformers and GI Joe were the toy lines to beat and a show like the Go-Bots which I enjoyed, just had zero chance of success against the better toys and shows.

There's this cartoon I once saw when I was probably four or five back in '83 or '84. I'm not sure if it's indeed from the 80's or the 70's, but back then we were still getting reruns of obscure Hannah-Barbera cartoons like the Hair Bear Bunch and Funky Phantom. Anyway it was about three dogs, I'm not even sure if they're dogs actually, who had this sort of power they use when they're in a pinch. They would "merge" into this "Super Dog" that emitted a flash of light that scares away the monster of the day. By merge what they actually do is two of them, the taller ones, would stand so close together that their faces kinda look like they become one. Then one of the taller dogs who wears a hat and is actually the coward of the trio makes his hat wider so it'll fit his and the other dog, who's actually the leader's smushed together heads. Then the smallest and strongest dog lifts the two to complete their "Fused" glowing form. I'm not sure if it's a Hannah Barbera show or not but I remember it being aired in between Paw Paw Bears and The Hair Bear Bunch.

Oh man, do you remember that one cartoon from the 80s? It was called something like "Galactic Groove Rangers" or "Space Slime Spectacular" or... something like that. It was so bizarre and creepy, I can't believe they aired it back then! I vaguely remember the plot being about these mutant space snails who were trying to take over the universe by hypnotizing everyone with their slime trails. And the main characters were these talking vegetables who had to use disco dance moves to defeat them. Totally weird, right? There was this one episode where they accidentally shrunk down to the size of atoms and had to navigate through a maze inside a talking toaster to escape. And the toaster kept telling them riddles in this eerie, metallic voice that still gives me chills. Oh, and the dialogue was so strange. I remember one line where the broccoli character said something like, "Beware the shimmering slime, for it carries the dreams of the forgotten stars." Like, what does that even mean? It was like they were trying to be deep but just ended up confusing everyone. And then there was this recurring villain called Professor Gloom, who had a pet cloud that would rain acid rain on anyone who crossed him. I mean, who comes up with this stuff? Looking back, I have no idea how they thought this was suitable for kids. It was like a psychedelic trip gone wrong, with weird colors and trippy backgrounds. But hey, maybe that's why we turned out the way we did! If anyone else remembers this show or knows what I'm talking about, please let me know. I feel like I'm the only one who remembers this bizarre piece of 80s animation history!

Do you still have that play set? Thank you for watching 3DJapan!

@@RhettyforHistory I wish. I don't remember seeing it since I was like 10.

I had that base too. It was a cool toy line.

I can't believe you didn't include "Battle of the Planets" which ran from '78-'80. My friends and I simply called the show "G-Force", who were the good guys.

I remember that. The Japanese version (Gatchaman) was way better than the watered down Americanized version.

Battle of the Planets was the best cartoon in the 80's. Action, drama, badass spaceship, small rip off of Star Wars, but that was ok. Who remembers Star Blazers?

I loved BotP! I have the Funkos of Mark, Jason, & Princess. I still need Keyop & the Owl pilot(I can't remember his name).

@@LaManteca76 If you look around on the web you can find full episodes. I was shocked to hear Casey Kasem's voice as the young protagonist.

RoboCop, COPS, and Rambo were my first Cartoons back in the day, when popular ones like Transformers, He-Man, ThunderCats/Silverhawks, GI JOE, TMNT, were awesome at the time.

As a kid in the 1980s my all time favorite cartoon at the time was The Smurfs. I had a lot of the Smurfs memorabilia! My obsession with them drove my older sister right up the wall! 😂

Another whose name I forgot, featured the comic book heroes of before: Mandrake, Phantom, and some others in that vein, but it was a late 1980's show.

Filmation Associates, besides He-Man, She-Ra, and Bravestarr did produce a ”Ghostbusters” series which, in Mexico, was short-lived - quickly replaced in a competing network by DiC's The Real Ghostbusters.

I remember I had toys from every cartoon there but some of my favorite toys were from a line called Starcom. Spring loaded toys were the doors opened up or wings popped out and they had a bunch of magnets both on the vehicles and on the feet of the characters.

Seeing Turbo Teen in the thumbnail is why I clicked. I used to love that show. The whole hot/cold triggering system used to bug me, but I was always in the yard pretending to have the same power. Lol
