1980s USS Midway Marines

Excellent video. I joined the navy in late '82 and met a few guys from Midway. Cool guys. There's a video from the series Dogfights featuring the Midway during the Vietnam war. Migs in May for Midway. One of my favorites.

I regret that I did not include the Marine Detachment in my video. You were an important part of the crew. I will always have the image of half dressed, armed Marines leaping through knee knockers during security drills. We air-wing types learned to hug the bulkheads or get ran over. Semper Fi Marine!

I was ships company on the USS Midway (CV-41) from 1980-82. I worked in CVIC or the carriers intelligence center. The VMFP-3 Marines that we embarked for two different Indian Ocean deployments were top notch. However, With my last name I picked up the name "Colonel" In USMC ranking that's one pay grade below Brigadier General. So I enter the spaces and someone yells "Hey Colonel" All of the Marines jump to full attention. I was a 19 year old E-2 or E-3 at the time. They were embarrassed. Of course after that we had to keep it up. Jumpy Marines.. LOL

David, I spent many months on the Midway from 1981-1983. Our paths probably crossed. The picture at the 38-second mark was taken in the CVIC. Take care shipmate.
