...and a Hardee Hi Yo Silver - away! Every time I see the Hardees name the Lone Ranger song goes off in my head. I LIKE this build. Each of your builds reveals another hint or tip or trick or product. Dang, this time it was 1950's memories of after school B&W TV. Thanks, Chris, you are a "Crafty" guy!

Very artistic build. I love these older stock cars. They just looked more aggressive, yet their shape was really popular among most NASCAR fans. I prefer the Monte Carlo SS myself. I had a real one back than and showing up at a NASCAR race for me was extra special in my SS. This particular livery was hugely popular. Myself included and Bobby Allison was an incredibly talented and tough competitor on and off the track. Excellent build...... KB🇺🇸

This is the car that won the first Nascar race I went to when I was 9 years old. The 1981 World 600. Bobby Allison was driving. I've been to over 100 cup races since then.

Chris, I’ve been a Richard Petty fan from the start- 1st via the radio then TV when available, been to ‘several’ races, cut my teeth at Charlotte when getting to the grand stands was following a ‘cow path’ up the 2nd turn banking… 1 thing I’d like you to do is put the rear spoilers on correctly- in this build, its wrong- the rivets, bolts- whatever holds it on go on the trunk face, vertical surface not horizontal top of the trunk. I’d attach photos from the ‘81 Winston Cup Yearbook but…. Can’t… & I do NOT do facebook. But I do LOVE your builds and have incorporated some of your techniques in my building program… of which The KING is a huge part!!!!

I used to drive to North Carolina from Kentucky in the early '90's just to get decals that weren't available anywhere else...lol They quit putting beer and cigarette decals in the kits at some point but you could still get them from some hobby shops. Long before the Internet, you really had to be committed to get the stuff you needed to make an exact replica of the race cars ya built...lol The correct Hooter's decal set was a hard hard thing to find back then, for example...lol

The 80's NASCAR kits are the best whether Monogram or Salvino's. I can't wait until they can do the Fords. I really want to do David Pearson's 1976 Wood Brothers Daytona 500 winning Montego and Bobby Allison's 1978 winning Bud Moore Thunderbird, as well as other Ford and Mercury cars.

That s a fine build befitting the car and the driver of an era when NASCAR was a different organisation it is today. Drivers born from drivers , that came up hard and had to be tough, paid their dues and respected each other on the track. No cry baby movie star types like todays field. I d like to see a race with good ole boys against the mamma s boys and at Darlington.

There used to be a tube that went under the X to the passenger seat floor -- is that not in the kit anymore or did you just omit it for ease in building (it is fiddly to hold it in place & glue it)?

It's always in there, sometimes I forget to grab it and glue it in.

Just an FYI. The picture on the box art. Is not the car that ran in the race. The car in the race had 5 hole wheels and they were not gold. This paint scheme was only ran in 2 races before they changed it to the one everyone remembers. This scheme was copying somewhat the Wrangler scheme that was being ran.
@hpiguy3 жыл бұрын
You are welcome to argue that kind of stuff with Salvino, their family was actually at those races and they are close family friends with the Rainier group and the Allisons, hence all the cars of theirs we see. I have no idea, I just build the models and have fun. Thanks for watching! :)
