1981 Honda CX500 First start-up for months with stuck clutch free up a motorcycle Bike clutch

This is the first time the 1981 CX500 has been started for many months, notice the mildew on the side of the seat from standing, when it finally starts the clutch is stuck and not operating letting the wheel spin even when the clutch is pulled in, so whilst on the full stand I get the rear wheel spinning in top gear with clutch out, then pull in the clutch and press the foot brake a few times finally stalling it, which freed the clutch up.

Thanks a bundle, i have been out adjusting my clutch, cable and all sorts for two hours today, saw/read your post took your advice and my clutch is back working - result! will do an oil/filter change just to keep it smooth.

Yes let me know how it goes it should work but you may need to try more than once, I had the same issue with my Triumph TR6C and it worked on that also, I just had to kick start it in gear.

@@TheSwithy Thank you. I was wrong after all and my plates weren't frozen. The cable wasn't fully engaging the clutch, it appeared. A friend came over and we took the clutch cover off and saw the previous owner had badly installed the return spring. It was hindering movement.

I have a 2016 Kawasaki Concours 14 and it does this when cold, it finally loosens after a bit of riding and the bike is warm. But it's fairly consistent in the symptoms. Anyone experience this on the Connie and what did you do to remedy?

Hi as it says in the description, bike on full stand engine running, back wheel spinning when engine reved in gear even with clutch in, so get it spinning fast with clutch in and in high gear, apply the rear brake, and it will usually free the stuck clutch, sometimes you can free it without the bike running just in gear with the clutch in by rocking back and forth, but the way in the video works best.

Although you could just try puting it ig gear and rocking it back and forth with the clutch pulled in whilst in gear, if that doesn't work the other method should do.

Typical, I havn't got a centre stand or an electric start. Any other easy tips for my LC stuck plates. I live on a hill, it's just that I don't fancy pushing it back up if bumping it fails! Lo

@@davidkneale7455 Try rocking back and forth in gear with clutch in, it doesn't work as well as the method in the video but it does sometimes work (depends on how stuck they are) or lend a paddock stand off someone. BTW. you don't need an electric start as I have used the same method on my TR6C triumph starting with the kickstart.

Its always worked for me, sometiimes I have had to do it more than once and get the back wheel spinning really fast and jam the brake on very hard causing the engine to stall.
