Well done Nat for digging in. How were the seals & gaskets? Did they look ok or tatty? Sometimes a basic carb gasket kit solves 30% issues. Hopefully you get the jetting sorted.

Might explain why the previous owner/builder did what they did, as they can't get them or mega expensive. Fowlers in Bristol maybe able to help?
