my first nat.event...best time of my life .Changing lifters at nite at a lions campground ,went to Dick Moroso party at a farmers field We had to leave track with race car in tow ,i think only pro,s cars allowed to stay on grounds lots of free contingency for running class,,, oh and tech. was at the oval infield,,that was neat

The year before they went to 500 ci in in Pro Stock. Bob Glidden had a EXP thinking the 351 but had to run a Ford Shot Gun Hemi. He said it was a hand full

I got a real 1976 tank top from the us nationals that I bought there still in very good shape

You gotta hand it to Diamond P... They really did a good job broadcasting the sport... Better than ESPN ever thought of doing better than FS1 even... Steve Evans was a great announcer and reporter... And they had Dave McClellan who's like a walking history book of the sport of drag racing... In the mid to late '60s the only time you got to watch drag racing was on wide world of sports and they did a horrible job of handling it
